Boichi
Boichi is a pen-name used by Mu-jik Park, a South Korean manhwa-turned- manga artist living in Japan. Biography Intending to be a manga artist from his childhood days, Boichi majored in physics in college as preparation to draw science fiction works, and also to learn the technology of performance and imaging. He went on to graduate school to major in image technology. In 1993, while still enrolled, Boichi debuted in a Korean girls manhwa magazine. Since then, he gained popularity releasing a number of works and publishing books on how to draw manga targeting a wide range of readers. Manga career In 2004 he transitioned into the world of Japanese manga. His "Ultimate Space Emperor Caesar", serialized in Monthly ''Comic Gum'', was his first tankōbon in Japan. In 2005, 9 out of 11 of Boichi's hentai one-shot serialized in the Comic Aun were reunited under the volume titled ''Lovers in Winter''. It was serialized in Kodansha's ''seinen'' manga magazine ''Weekly Young Magazine'' from September 2016 to February 2019, with its chapters collected in ten ''tankōbon'' volumes. In 2019, ''Origin'' won the Grand Prize at the 22nd Japan Media Arts Festival. Publication ''Origin'', written and illustrated by Boichi, was serialized in Kodansha's ''seinen'' manga magazine ''Weekly Young Magazine'' from September 5, 2016, to February 9, 2019. Kodansha collected its chapters in ten ''tankōbon'' volumes, released from January 6, 2017, to June 6, 2019. Japan Media Arts Festival
The Japan Media Arts Festival is an annual festival held since 1997 by Japan's Agency for Cultural Affairs. The festival begins with an open competition and culminates with the awarding of several prizes and an exhibition. Based on judging by a jury of artistic peers, awards are given in four categories: Art (formerly called Non-Interactive Digital Art), Entertainment (formerly called Interactive Art; including video games and websites), animation, and manga. Within each category, one Grand Prize, four Excellence Prizes, and (since 2002) one Encouragement Prize are awarded. Other outstanding works, are selected by the Jury as Jury Selections. The is one of Japan's major manga awards, and is sponsored by Shogakukan, Shogakukan Publishing. It has been awarded annually for serialized manga and features candidates from a number of publishers. It is the oldest manga award in Japan, being given since 1955.
