Boekenpauw
The Boekenpauw, also known as the Yvonne Gillé-Decoeneprijs, is a Flemish award for a Flemish or Dutch illustrator for the best illustrations in a children's book. History The Boekenpauw and Boekenpluim awards were established in 1989. The award was not given in 2017 due to reorganisation at Boek.be and due to reassessment of what awards the organisation would continue to support. The award was given again in 2018 sponsored by association of authors, composers and publishers SABAM and GAU (Groep Algemene Uitgevers). Gerda Dendooven won the Boekenpauw four times: in 1990, 1995, 2002 and 2007. Several illustrators have won the Boekenpauw twice: Carll Cneut (2000 and 2004), Goele Dewanckel (1999 and 2005), Ingrid Godon (2001 and 2015), Tom Schamp (2008 and 2013) en André Sollie (1998 and 2010). Ingrid Godon
Ingrid Godon (born 29 August 1958) is a Flanders, Flemish illustrator of children's literature. Career She won the Prijs van de Kinder- en Jeugdjury voor het boek in Vlaanderen in 1988 and in 1989 for respectively illustrating the books ''Pius en Pepijn'' and ''Niemand mag het weten'' written by Gerda van Cleemput. She also won the award in 1988 for illustrating the book ''Mijn broer is een punker'' by Maria Heylen. In 2001, Godon and André Sollie won the Gouden Griffel award for their book ''Wachten op Matroos'' (2000). She also won a Vlag en Wimpel award for her illustrations in the book. In Flanders the book was awarded the Boekenpauw and Boekenwelp awards. The English translation of the book ''Hello, Sailor (book), Hello, Sailor'' was published in 2003. Gerda Dendooven
Gerda Dendooven (born 10 May 1962) is a Belgian illustrator. She has won numerous awards for her work, including the Gouden Uil, the Woutertje Pieterse Prijs and the Boekenpauw on several occasions. Early life Dendooven was born in 1962 in Marke, Belgium. She studied ''Vrije Grafiek'' at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Ghent. Career Children's literature In 1987, she illustrated her first children's book ''Geen gezoen, vlug opendoen'' by Ed Franck. Dendooven went on to illustrate many books by many different authors, including Herman Brusselmans, Toon Tellegen and Bart Moeyaert. Other authors include Elvis Peeters, Michael De Cock and Wally De Doncker. In 1996, she was nominated for the Hans Christian Andersen Award. André Sollie
André Sollie (born 7 July 1947) is a Belgian author and illustrator of children's literature. Career Sollie made his debut in children's poetry with ''Soms, dan heb ik flink de pest in'' in 1986. In 2000, Sollie and Ingrid Godon published the children's book ''Wachten op Matroos''. They both won the Gouden Griffel award a year later for this book. Carll Cneut
Carll Cneut (born 8 January 1969) is a Flemish illustrator. He has illustrated many books by Dutch and Flemish authors and he has received numerous awards for his work. Early life Cneut studied graphic design at the Sint-Lucas School in Ghent, Belgium. Career Cneut made his debut with his illustrations in the poetry collection ''Varkentjes van marsepein'' written by Geert De Kockere. He won the Boekenpauw award twice: in 2000 for illustrating the book ''Willy'' written by Geert De Kockere and in 2004 for illustrating the book ''Mijnheer Ferdinand'' written by Agnes Guldemont. Koen Fossey (born 30 June 1953) is a Belgian illustrator. Career He won the Prijs van de Vlaamse Provincies in 1983 for his picture book ''Het spoortje in het bos''. Marit Törnqvist
Marit Törnqvist (born January 19, 1964) is a Swedish-Dutch author, artist and illustrator. She was best known for her illustrations in the books of Astrid Lindgren. Life and career Marit Törnqvist is the daughter of Egil Törnqvist, a professor of Scandinavian Studies at the University of Amsterdam and an academic literary critic. Her mother is author and translator Rita Törnqvist Verschuur. Törnqvist moved to the Netherlands at the age of five, where she still lives today. Her mother translated the books of Astrid Lindgren into Dutch. Thus, Törnqvist grew up with Lindgren's literature. From 1982 to 1987 Törnqvist went to the Gerrit Rietveld Academy in Amsterdam. Kitty Crowther (born 4 April 1970, in Brussels) is a Belgian illustrator and writer of children's books. For her career contribution to "children's and young adult literature in the broadest sense" she won the 2010 Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award from the Swedish Arts Council, the biggest prize in children's literature.
