Bodenheim is a state-recognized tourism municipality (''Fremdenverkehrsgemeinde'') in the Mainz-Bingen district in Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany Geography Location The municipality lies roughly 12 km south of downtown Mainz on the edge of the Frankfurt Rhine Main Region. The municipality is strongly characterized by winegrowing. The many wineries and '' Straußwirtschaften'' invite visitors to come and enjoy the wine. Since 1972, Bodenheim has been the seat of the ''Verbandsgemeinde'' of Bodenheim, a kind of collective municipality. History In 754, Bodenheim had its first documentary mention, and it marked its 1,250-year jubilee in 2004. On 29 June 1988, two US F-16C combat aircraft collided near the municipality and fell over an uninhabited area. One of the pilots managed to save himself with his ejection seat, while the other, Captain Mike Crandall, was killed. Saalfeld-Rudolstadt is a ''Kreis'' (district) in the south of Thuringia, Germany. Neighboring districts are (from the north clockwise) the districts Weimarer Land, Saale-Holzland, Saale-Orla, the district Kronach in Bavaria, and the districts Sonneberg, Hildburghausen and Ilm-Kreis. History The district dates back to the ''Landratsamt'' Saalfeld, which was created in 1868, and in 1922 it was converted into the ''Landkreis''. Also in 1922 the district Rudolstadt was created, the second historical root of the district as of today. Both districts were merged in the communal reform of 1994. Rudolstadt
Rudolstadt is a town in the German federal state Thuringia, with the Thuringian Forest to the southwest, and to Jena and Weimar to the north. The former capital of Schwarzburg-Rudolstadt, the town is built along the River Saale inside a wide valley surrounded by woods. Rudolstadt was founded in 776 and has had municipal law since 1326.
