Bo Westlake
Henry Mounfield "Bo" Westlake (25 May 1927 – 13 January 2019) was a Canadian rower who competed in the 1952 Summer Olympics. Biography Henry Westlake had spent part of his childhood in Parkdale, Toronto. He was an oarsman at the Argonaut Rowing Club. Westlake captained the 1952 Canadian Olympic heavyweight 8-oared crew in Helsinki, Finland. Rowing (sport)
Rowing, sometimes called crew in the United States, is the sport of racing boats using oars. It differs from paddling sports in that rowing oars are attached to the boat using oarlocks, while paddles are not connected to the boat. Rowing is divided into two disciplines: sculling and sweep rowing. In sculling, each rower holds two oars—one in each hand, while in sweep rowing each rower holds one oar with both hands. There are several boat classes in which athletes may compete, ranging from single sculls, occupied by one person, to shells with eight rowers and a coxswain, called eights. Parkdale, Toronto
Parkdale is a neighbourhood and former village in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, west of downtown. The neighbourhood is bounded on the west by Roncesvalles Avenue, on the north by the CP Rail line where it crosses Queen Street and Dundas Street. It is bounded on the east by Dufferin Street from Queen Street south, and on the south by Lake Ontario. Argonaut Rowing Club
The Argonaut Rowing Club is an amateur rowing club in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. The club was founded in 1872. The current junior head coach is Connor Elsdon. In the past, the club fielded teams in ice hockey and football, and the football team continues today as the Toronto Argonauts of the Canadian Football League. History The club, one of the oldest and largest of its type in Canada, dates back to 1872, founded by a group of amateur oarsmen known as the ''Orioles'', which had been participating in races in southern Ontario in the 1860s.
