John Bluett
John Bluett (1603 – 28 November 1634) of Holcombe Court, lord of the manor of Holcombe Rogus in Devon, was MP for Tiverton from 1628 to 1629 when King Charles I embarked on his Personal Rule without parliament for eleven years. Origins John Bluett was the son of Arthur Bluett (1573/4-1612) of Holcombe Rogus by his wife Jane Lancaster (1583-1641), daughter and heiress of John Lancaster of Bagborough, Somerset. John was left fatherless aged nine when Arthur Bluett died in 1612, predeceasing his own father Richard Bluett (d.1614), whose monument with effigy exists in the Bluett Chapel of Holcombe Rogus Church. John's mother Joan remarried to Philip Poyntz, a recusant, probably of the ancient Poyntz family of Iron Acton in Gloucestershire, whose grave-slab in the Bluett Chapel records his death on 16 August 1645: ''"Here lyeth the body of Phillip Pointz, gent., who deceased the 16 day of August Anno Dom(ini) 1645. Fred Bluett
Frederick George "Fred" Bluett (January 20, 1876, Middlesex, London – December 3, 1942, Double Bay, New South Wales) was a London-born vaudevillian and radio actor. Biography He was the son of comedian and stage actor Frederick William Bluett, and his grandfather had also been a stage performer. Fred came to Australia as a fifteen year old in 1891 and remained in the region for the rest of his life. Not long after arriving in Australia Bluett left for New Zealand, spending almost a decade working for the Fullers on their Dominion circuit. He returned to Australia in 1902 under contract to Harry Rickards and over the next three decades cemented his reputation as one of the region's premier comedians. Thomas Bluett (October 7, 1879 – March 4, 1958) was a native of Birmingham, England who became Speaker of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives, serving in that capacity from 1925 to 1927. Formative years Born in Birmingham, England on October 7, 1879, Bluett attended Bayard Taylor and Thomas Potter public schools. A student at Temple University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, he graduated from that university's law department in 1904, and was then admitted to the Philadelphia Bar on March 6, 1905, subsequently finding work in a local law office. Lennie Bluett (January 21, 1919 – January 1, 2016) was an American film actor, pianist, dancer and singer. His mother was a cook for Humphrey Bogart. At age 16, Bluett started playing the piano at Bogart's parties. He formed a harmonizing group with his friends called "Four Dreamers". Nat King Cole used to play with the band. Augustus Frederick Bluett (23 April 1902 – 14 March 1936), invariably referred to as "Gus", was an Australian comic actor. History Bluett was born in Prahran, Victoria, son of Catherine Bluett, née McKechnie, and comedian Fred Bluett. John Douglas Jeremy Bluett (29 May 1930 – 23 August 2019) was an English amateur cricketer who played two first-class cricket matches for Kent County Cricket Club in 1950. Bluett was born at Kensington in London, and was educated at Cranbrook School, Kent, captaining the side in his final year when he averaged almost 60 runs per innings.Deaths in 2019, ''Kent County Cricket Club Annual 2020'', p.223. Thomas Bluett (16901749) was a British judge in Annapolis, Maryland. Bluett gained lasting renown by the encounter with an African slave, Ayuba Suleiman Diallo, in 1731. While in jail in Annapolis, Ayuba was visited by Thomas Bluett. Grant Bluett (born 6 November 1972) is an Australian orienteering competitor. He won a gold medal in the individual event at the World Games in 2001. In perhaps the biggest upset in the history of world-level orienteering, Grant Bluett (Australia) won the men's race to become the first men's World Games orienteering champion. His victory is the first ever senior individual medal by a Non-European competitor and a great boost for orienteering as a world sport. His best results at the World Orienteering Championships are the 8th position in the sprint distance in 2003, and 6th in the relay in 2001 with the Australian team. Bluett Wallop
Bluett (or Bluet) Wallop (27 April 1726 – 6 June 1749) was a British soldier and politician. The fourth son of John Wallop, 1st Earl of Portsmouth, Bluett was appointed a Page of Honour to George II on 8 November 1739. He served the King on campaign in Flanders in 1743 and 1744. In the latter year, he left the King's service, having obtained a commission as a cornet in Honywood's Regiment of Horse. He was with his regiment at Fontenoy, and soon thereafter got a captaincy in Lord Sempill's Regiment of Foot. He fought at Culloden, and later got the captaincy of a troop of horse and served as equerry to the Duke of Cumberland. In 1747, he was returned to Parliament as a member for Newport, Isle of Wight, owing to his father's influence as Governor of the Isle of Wight.
