Blue Booklet
The Blue booklet ( cs, Modrá knížka, officially ''Průkaz o neschopnosti k vojenské činné službě'' (Document of proof of incapacity for military service) or formerly ''Průkaz o osvobození od vojenské povinnosti'' (Document of proof of exemption from military service) was a certificate of exemption from military service in Czechoslovakia and later in the Czech Republic and Slovakia. Compulsory military service had existed throughout the unified nation's history and was only abolished in 2004 in the Czech Republic and one year later in Slovakia. The holder of a blue booklet could not be drafted for basic military service nor included in the reserve. Application process Applications for a blue booklet had to be reviewed by the military administration's conscription board, usually on the basis of opinions from specialists. Modrá Knížka 01
Modrá (formerly Nová Ves; german: Neudorf) is a municipality and village in Uherské Hradiště District in the Zlín Region of the Czech Republic. It has about 700 inhabitants. Geography Modrá lies approximately northwest of Uherské Hradiště and south-west of Zlín. It is located in the Chřiby highlands. History The territory of today's municipality has been inhabited since time immemorial. Archaeological finds testify to the human presence in about 5,000 BC. The present village was part of Velehrad until 1786, when it became separate. Sights In Modrá is an archaeological site with excavations from the Great Moravian period. The findings are presented in Modrá Archeoskanzen, which is an archaeological open-air museum with replicas of the Great Moravia period buildings. The Czech Republic, or simply Czechia, is a landlocked country in Central Europe. Conscription
Conscription (also called the draft in the United States) is the state-mandated enlistment of people in a national service, mainly a military service. Military Service
Military service is service by an individual or group in an army or other militia, air forces, and naval forces, whether as a chosen job (volunteer) or as a result of an involuntary draft (conscription). Some nations (e.g., Mexico) require a specific amount of military service from every citizen, except for special cases, such as limitation determined by a military physical or religious belief. A military reserve force is a military organization whose members have military and civilian occupations. They are not normally kept under arms, and their main role is to be available when their military requires additional manpower. Conscientious Objector
A conscientious objector (often shortened to conchie) is an "individual who has claimed the right to refuse to perform military service" on the grounds of freedom of thought, conscience, or religion. The term has also been extended to objecting to working for the military–industrial complex due to a crisis of conscience. In some countries, conscientious objectors are assigned to an alternative civilian service as a substitute for conscription or military service. Karel Plíhal
Karel Plíhal (born August 23, 1958 in Přerov) is a Czech folk and jazz musician, singer, songwriter and record producer. He graduated from the Industrial College of Engineering and then worked as a designer and boilerman in the Olomouc theatre, finally becoming a singer (even though he had no formal musical education). He has played the guitar since he was 15 years old. First, he played in various underground country-swing bands in Olomouc: ''Hučka'', ''Falešní hráči'' and ''Plíharmonyje''. He produced his first solo album in 1983. Between 1985 and 1993, Plíhal worked with Emil Pospíšil, and from 1995 to 1999 he produced music with Petr Freund. He has also won four Porta folk music awards . His 2005 album ''Karel Plíhal in Olomouc'' was recorded in his home town in Moravia in a 2004 concert. DG 307
DG 307 was a Czech underground rock band founded in 1973 in Prague by Milan Hlavsa and Pavel Zajíček. The group has been inactive since 2016. Overview Bass guitarist Milan Hlavsa and poet Pavel Zajíček launched DG 307 in 1973, taking the name from a psychiatric diagnosis that allowed young men to obtain a blue booklet and thus avoid compulsory military service. Together with the Plastic People of the Universe, a band Hlavsa had also been a member of, DG 307, among other underground ensembles, was a target of persecution by the communist regime. The repression climaxed in 1976, when Zajíček was arrested and imprisoned for a year, allegedly for disorderly conduct. After his release, only two DG 307 concerts took place, in 1979. In 1980, Zajíček emigrated and the group went on indefinite hiatus. Blue Effect
Blue Effect was a Czech rock band, also operating under the names M. Efekt, Modrý efekt, or The Special Blue Effect, since their formation in 1968. The band's main and only permanent member, from its founding until his death in 2016, was guitarist Radim Hladík, formerly of The Matadors. Blue Effect changed their musical style several times, ranging from rhythm and blues, jazz fusion, to art rock.
