Billwerder
Billwerder () is a quarter of Hamburg, Germany, in the borough of Bergedorf. It is located on the northwestern border of the borough adjacent to the borough of Hamburg-Mitte. At the same time Billwerder means a greater area south of the river Bille. Name The name derives from ''Bilnawerthere'', meaning ''island in the Bille''. A Werder is an island between rivers or other bodies of water, in this case Bille and Elbe/ Dove Elbe rivers. Until 1949 Billwerder was also named ''Billwärder an der Elbe''. Geography Billwerder borders the quarters of Lohbrügge, Bergedorf, Neuallermöhe, Allermöhe, Moorfleet, Billbrook, and Billstedt. Billwerder is part of the Marschlande (''marshlands'') area in Hamburg, which is known for its wet and muddy grounds. It is sparsely populated. Billwerder-Moorfleet Station
Billwerder-Moorfleet is a station on the Berlin-Hamburg railway line and served by the trains of Hamburg S-Bahn lines S2 and S21. The station was originally opened in 1842 and is located in the Hamburg district of Billwerder, Germany. Billwerder is part of the Hamburg borough of Bergedorf. History The station was opened by the Hamburg-Bergedorf Railway Company in 1842 to serve the commuter rail in Hamburg's south-eastern quarters. On 1 June 1958 Billwerder-Moorfleet station was electrified and integrated into the Hamburg S-Bahn network. Before the Berlin-Hamburg railway was re-built at the beginning of the 1990s, the station had an island platform. One side of it was cut off, because the space was needed for the railway line and a new container terminal, and the rest was changed into a side platform. Hamburg S-Bahn
The Hamburg S-Bahn is a suburban commuter railway network in the Hamburg Metropolitan Region. Together, the S-Bahn, the Hamburg U-Bahn, the AKN railway and the regional railway form the backbone of railway public transport in the city and the surrounding area. Bundesautobahn 1
is an autobahn in Germany. It runs from Heiligenhafen in Schleswig-Holstein to Saarbrücken, a distance of , but is incomplete between Cologne and Trier. B 207 continues north from Heiligenhafen to Puttgarden, at the end of the island of Fehmarn, with a ferry to Rødby, Denmark. Bergedorf
Bergedorf () is the largest of the seven boroughs of Hamburg, Germany, named after Bergedorf quarter within this borough. In 2020 the population of the borough was 130,994. History The city of Bergedorf received town privileges in 1275, then a part of the younger Duchy of Saxony (1180–1296), which was partitioned by its four co-ruling dukes in 1296 into the branch duchies of Saxe-Lauenburg and Saxe-Wittenberg. Bergedorf then became part of the former. This was only to last until 1303, when Lauenburg's three co-ruling dukes, Albert III, Eric I, and John II partitioned their branch duchy into three smaller duchies. Vierlande
Vierlande is the name given to a roughly 77-square kilometre region in the Hamburg district of Bergedorf which has a population of 18,419 and comprises four quarters of the city. Its name goes back to the year 1556 and refers to the four church parishes of Curslack, Kirchwerder, Neuengamme and Altengamme which are identical with their modern-day quarters. Geography The Vierlande consists of former river islands in the ''urstromtal'' of the Elbe. History The populace of Vierlande were free farmers, but sovereignty over the whole region frequently changed hands. Moorfleet () is a quarter of Hamburg, Germany, in the borough of Bergedorf. It is located in the west of the borough. Geography Moorfleet is a part of the Marschlande and is located at the Dove Elbe river. The quarter is not highly populated and is mainly used for agriculture. Billbrook
Billbrook () is a quarter of Hamburg, Germany, in the borough of Hamburg-Mitte. It is located on the southeastern border of the borough adjacent to the borough of Bergedorf. Billbrook is located in a swamp area near the Elbe and Bille rivers, which is described by the name, meaning ''Brook'' (''Bruchwald'', carr) at the river Bille. 2,198 people lived in Billbrook in 2016. is a quarter of Hamburg, Germany, in the borough of Bergedorf. In 2020 the population was over 23,000. Bille (Elbe)
The river Bille () is a small, slow-flowing German river in Stormarn, Schleswig-Holstein and Hamburg, a right tributary of the Elbe. Its source is near Linau, north of the heathland Hahnheide forest. It then flows south of Trittau, representing the border between Stormarn and Lauenburg, continues south of Reinbek and reaches the river Elbe near Billwerder. A lot of old estates and tasteful parks are laid out along its riverbank. Its total length is 65 km. The Bille is one of three rivers which flow through the city of Hamburg, the other two being the Elbe and the Alster. is a quarter in the Bergedorf borough of the Free and Hanseatic city of Hamburg in northern Germany. In 2020, the population was 40,745.
