On February 15, 2019, former Governor of Massachusetts, Massachusetts Governor Bill Weld announced the formation of an exploratory committee to consider running for the 2020 Republican Party presidential primaries, Republican nomination in the 2020 United States presidential election. On April 15, 2019 Weld officially announced he would be running for president, challenging incumbent Donald Trump. The 2020 United States presidential election was the 59th quadrennial presidential election, held on Tuesday, November 3, 2020. The Democratic ticket of former vice president Joe Biden and the junior U.S. senator from California Kamala Harris defeated the incumbent Republican president Donald Trump and incumbent vice president Mike Pence.
