Moonee Valley Racecourse
Moonee Valley Racecourse, currently marketed as The Valley, is a horse-racing track in Moonee Ponds, Melbourne, Victoria Australia. History Moonee Valley Racecourse was established in 1883 by William Samuel (W.S.) Cox, who purchased a farm the previous year belonging to John F. Feehan for the purpose of establishing a racetrack. Being entirely freehold land owned by a private club, this separates Moonee Valley from other Melbourne racecourses such as Caulfield and Flemington. Expansion of the racecourse facilities occurred in the 1960s, funded by compensation for land acquired for the construction of the adjacent Tullamarine Freeway. Whobegotyou (19 August 2005 - 12 September 2012) was an Australian-bred Thoroughbred racehorse. The horse won nine races, including the Group One (G1) Caulfield Guineas and Yalumba Stakes for $3,115,450 in prize money. He was a chestnut gelding that was foaled on 19 August 2005 and was bred by Lockyer Thoroughbreds. Whobegotyou was by the outstanding racehorse and sire, Street Cry (IRE), who won the Dubai World Cup and is the sire of winners of more than $51 million including, Shocking, Street Sense and Zenyatta. His dam, Temple of Peace was by Carnegie, who won the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe and is the dam of winners of more than $50 million. Storm Queen was a notable Australian thoroughbred racehorse. A bay daughter of Coronation Boy from the mare Storm Gleam, she was foaled in 1963 and was trained throughout her career by Bart Cummings. Daryl's Joy
Daryl’s Joy was a notable New Zealand Thoroughbred race horse. A son of Stunning (GB) from the mare Rutha (NZ), he was foaled in 1966 and was trained by Syd Brown in New Zealand and later in his career by Charlie Whittingham in the United States. Racing record A bargain buy costing only $1,100 at the New Zealand yearling sales, he went on to win races in three different countries. Daryl’s Joy was New Zealand’s top rated juvenile in 1968-69 winning seven races and placing seven times in 14 starts. The following season as a three-year-old he raced exclusively in Australia. Taj Rossi (foaled 1970) was a champion Australian Thoroughbred racehorse. Background Taj Rossi was sired by Matrice from the mare Dark Queen. He was trained throughout his career by Bart Cummings who bought him at the 1972 Adelaide yearling sales. Racing career During the Spring of 1973 as a three-year-old his career blossomed winning the Ascot Vale Stakes, Carrum Handicap, Moonee Valley Stakes, Cox Plate, Victoria Derby and the Sandown Guineas. This string of victories earned Taj Rossi the title of Australian Racehorse of the Year in 1973. Background Hey Doc was sold at the Inglis Victorian yearling sales for the amount of A$85,000.
