Bill Sander
} William Knox Sander (born April 16, 1956) is an American professional golfer. Amateur career Sander won the 1976 U.S. Amateur. He also competed in the 1976 Eisenhower Trophy and the 1977 Walker Cup match. In 1976 he was ranked the #3 amateur in the country. Professional career Sander played on the PGA Tour from 1979 to 1992 during his 15 years as a professional golfer. He twice finished runner-up: 1988 Los Angeles Open and 1991 Shearson Lehman Brothers Open. A professional golfer is somebody who receives payments or financial rewards in the sport of golf that are directly related to their skill or reputation. A person who earns money by teaching or playing golf is traditionally considered a "golf pro," most of whom are teachers/coaches. The professional golfer status is reserved for people who play, rather than teach, golf for a career. In golf, the distinction between amateurs and professionals is rigorously maintained. An amateur who breaches the rules of amateur status may lose their amateur status. 1976 Eisenhower Trophy
The 1976 Eisenhower Trophy took place 13 to 16 October at the Penina Hotel & Golf Resort in Portimão, Algarve, Portugal. It was the tenth World Amateur Team Championship for the Eisenhower Trophy. The tournament was a 72-hole stroke play team event with 38 four-man teams. The best three scores for each round counted towards the team total. Great Britain and Ireland won the Eisenhower Trophy for the second time, finishing two strokes ahead of the silver medalists, Japan, who had also been runners-up in 1974. Australia took the bronze medal, three strokes further behind, while team Republic of China finished fourth. 1977 Walker Cup
The 1977 Walker Cup, the 26th Walker Cup Match, was played on August 26 and 27, 1977, at Shinnecock Hills Golf Club, Southampton, New York. The event was won by the United States 16 to 8. The United States led 9–3 after the first day and 11–5 after the second-day foursomes. Needing just a point to retain the trophy, the United States won 5 of the 8 singles matches for a convincing victory. There were no halved matches, although 8 matches went to the last hole. Format The format for play on Friday and Saturday was the same. There were four matches of foursomes in the morning and eight singles matches in the afternoon. In all, 24 matches were played. The Genesis Invitational is a professional golf tournament on the PGA Tour in southern California, first played in 1926 as the Los Angeles Open. Shearson Lehman Brothers Open
The Farmers Insurance Open is a professional golf tournament on the PGA Tour, played in the San Diego, California, area in the early part of the season known as the "West Coast Swing". The tournament was noted for having singer-actor Andy Williams as a celebrity host from 1968 through 1988. It originated as the San Diego Open in 1952 and used that name in its title through 1985. Title sponsors were added in 1981, first with Wickes for two years, then three with Isuzu. Shearson Lehman Brothers became the title sponsors in 1986, replaced by Buick in 1992 and Farmers Insurance in 2010. The event is organized by The Century Club of San Diego. Spring 1978 PGA Tour Qualifying School Graduates
