This is a list of the 1986 PGA Tour Qualifying School graduates. 53 players earned their 1987 PGA Tour card through Q-School in 1986. This was the first year that playing privileges went out to the top 50 and, in addition, those that tied for the top 50. The tournament was played over 108 holes at the PGA West Stadium Course, in La Quinta, California. Those earning cards split the $100,000 purse, with the winner earning $15,000. PGA Tour
The PGA Tour (stylized in all capital letters as PGA TOUR by its officials) is the organizer of professional golf tours in the United States and North America. It organizes most of the events on the flagship annual series of tournaments also known as the PGA Tour, as well as PGA Tour Champions (age 50 and older) and the Korn Ferry Tour (for professional players who have not yet qualified to play on the PGA Tour), as well as PGA Tour Canada, PGA Tour Latinoamérica, and PGA Tour China. Keith Clearwater
Keith Allen Clearwater (born September 1, 1959) is an American professional golfer who has won two tournaments on the PGA Tour. Clearwater was born in Long Beach, California. He went to Northgate High School (Walnut Creek, California) and was one of many Californians to attend Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah and play on the school's golf team. In 1981, his junior year, he helped lead BYU to the 1981 NCAA Championship, and was named as a first team All-American. During his tenure at BYU, his teammates included future professional golfers Rick Fehr, Richard Zokol and Bobby Clampett. In his senior year, 1982, he was named as a second team All-American. He turned pro in 1982, and joined the PGA Tour in 1987. Clearwater won two tournaments on the PGA Tour, both in his rookie season of 1987. Tim Norris
Tim Norris (born November 20, 1957) is a current college head golf coach and a former professional golfer who played on the PGA Tour in the 1980s. Early life Norris was born and raised in Fresno, California. He started his collegiate career at Fresno City College before transferring to Fresno State University. In 1979, he was a second-team All-American, helped lead Fresno State to the Big West Championship, and was the winner of the Sun Bowl Golf Classic. In 1980, he was a first-team All-American, shared Big West ''Athlete-of-the-Year'' honors with Jay Don Blake, helped lead Fresno State to its second Big West Championship in as many years, and was Fresno State's ''Athlete-of-the-Year''. Vance Heafner
Clayton Vance Heafner Jr. (August 11, 1954 – September 26, 2012) was an American professional golfer who played on the PGA Tour, the Nationwide Tour and the Champions Tour. Early life Heafner was born in Charlotte, North Carolina. He was the son of professional golfer Clayton Heafner and Mary Ellen Allen. The family moved to Cary, North Carolina where he attended Cary Elementary School and Cary High School. He attended North Carolina State University and was a three-time All-American member of the golf team. Heafner played on the 1977 Walker Cup team, winning all three of his matches to help lead the U.S. to victory, and turned professional in 1978. NCAA Division I Men's Golf Championships
The NCAA Division I Men's Golf Championship, played in late May or early June, is the top annual competition in U.S. men's collegiate golf. The teams that win their respective Division I conference championships are given automatic spots in the regionals. A selection committee decides which other teams play in the regionals. The top teams in each regional advance to the championship. In addition, the best player in each tournament from teams not qualified also advance to the next round as individual competitors. It is a stroke play team competition; starting in 2009, the competition changed to a stroke play/match play competition with the top eight teams after 54 holes of stroke play being seeded and concluding with an eight-team match play playoff. Jay Don Blake
Jay Don Blake (born October 28, 1958) is an American professional golfer who has played on the PGA Tour and the Nationwide Tour. He currently plays on the PGA Tour Champions. Blake was born and raised in St. George, Utah, where he attended Dixie High School, graduating in 1977. Blake learned the game of golf on the public Dixie Red Hills Golf Course. He attended Utah State University in Logan and was a member of the golf team. He won the 1980 NCAA Championship and was named NCAA ''Player of the Year'' in 1981. He turned pro in 1981 and joined the PGA Tour in 1987. Although Blake has only one victory on the PGA Tour, he earned a spot in the top-125 for 15 consecutive years after joining the tour in 1987. Dave Eichelberger
Martin Davis Eichelberger, Jr. (born September 3, 1943) is an American professional golfer who has won several tournaments at both the PGA Tour and Champions Tour levels. Eichelberger was born in Waco, Texas. He started in the game at the age of 13 in the junior programs at his family's golf club in Waco, Texas, Waco. He attended Oklahoma State University in Stillwater, Oklahoma; and while there blossomed into an outstanding amateur. He led the Oklahoma State Cowboys to the 1963 NCAA Championship. He graduated in 1965 and turned pro in 1966. Eichelberger has twelve professional victories. Four of which came on the PGA Tour, plus six Champions Tour triumphs. Rick Dalpos
Rick Dalpos (born April 25, 1957) is an American professional golfer who played on the PGA Tour and the Nationwide Tour. Dalpos joined the PGA Tour in 1983 and played on Tour until 1989 with little success. His best finish during those years was when he finished in a tie for tenth in the 1987 Los Angeles Open. He joined the Nationwide Tour in 1990 and enjoyed more success, recording four top-10 finishes. In 1991, he picked up his first win on Tour at the Ben Hogan Greater Ozarks Open. He picked up his second win the following year at the Ben Hogan Pensacola Open. That win helped him finish 8th on the money list which earned him his PGA Tour card for 1993. Trevor Dodds
Trevor George Dodds (born 26 September 1959) is a Namibian professional golfer. Dodds was born in Windhoek, South West Africa. He turned pro in 1985. Western Amateur
The Western Amateur is a leading annual golf tournament in the United States for male amateur golfers. It is organized by the Western Golf Association. The Western Amateur features an international field of top-ranked amateur golfers. It was first held in 1899, making it the third-oldest amateur golf event in the world. The tournament was first held at Glen View Club in Golf, Illinois. John Inman (golfer)
John Samuel Inman (born November 26, 1962) is an American professional golfer and college men's golf head coach. He is the younger brother of professional golfer Joe Inman. Inman was born in Greensboro, North Carolina, where he graduated from Grimsley High School in 1980. He attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill from 1980–1984, and was a distinguished member of the golf team – a three-time All-American. In his senior year, Inman received the Haskins Award given annually to the college player of the year. He was the individual medalist in the 1984 NCAA Division I Championship. Brad Fabel
Brad Fabel (born November 30, 1955) is an American professional golfer. Fabel was born in Louisville, Kentucky. He was a semifinalist at the 1973 U.S. Junior Amateur and won 1974 Kentucky State Amateur. He played college golf first at the University of Houston, then at Western Kentucky University. He graduated from WKU in 1982 and turned professional. Fabel played on the PGA Tour from 1985 to 1993 and 1996 to 2001. His best finish on tour was pair of T-2: at the 1990 Canon Greater Hartford Open and the 1997 Buick Open. He also played on the Nationwide Tour from 1994 to 1995 and 2001 to 2005, winning twice: the 1994 Nike Gateway Classic and the 1995 Nike Shreveport Open.
