Big East Conference (Iowa)
The Big East Conference was a high school athletic conference in Eastern Iowa. The conference was made up of primarily 1A and 2A schools (the smallest two classifications of schools in Iowa). There were nine teams in the conference, spanning from Lisbon in Linn County to the Mississippi River, in its final incarnation. At its peak in the early 2000s, the Big East Conference had 14 schools, but due to consolidations, school closings and changes in conference affiliation, membership soon dropped, and in its final year as a conference had nine members. Following the 2012–13 school year, the conference was dissolved, with its schools being split up between two leagues. Track And Field
Track and field is a sport that includes athletic contests based on running, jumping, and throwing skills. The name is derived from where the sport takes place, a running track and a grass field for the throwing and some of the jumping events. Track and field is categorized under the umbrella sport of athletics, which also includes road running, cross country running and racewalking. The foot racing events, which include sprints, middle- and long-distance events, racewalking, and hurdling, are won by the athlete who completes it in the least time. Iowa High School Athletic Association
The Iowa High School Athletic Association (IHSAA) is the regulating body for male Iowa high school interscholastic athletics and is a full member of the National Federation of State High School Associations. Its female counterpart, the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union, (IGHSAU) is an associate member. Iowa is the only state that maintains separate governing bodies for boys' and girls' athletics. Sports overseen by the IHSAA are baseball, basketball, bowling, cross country, football, golf, soccer, swimming & diving, tennis, track & field, and wrestling. Cedar Valley Conference
The River Valley Conference (RVC) is a high school athletic conference whose members are located in smaller communities in eastern Iowa. The conference roughly spans from Johnson County, Iowa to the southwest, to Dubuque County, Iowa to the northeast. The RVC was founded in the 2013-2014 school year. Member Schools There are 15 full members of the River Valley Conference. Most of those schools are in Class 2A, Iowa's second smallest enrollment class. Maquoketa and Beckman joined the conference in the 2022-2023 school year to bring the total to the current 15 schools. The North Cedar Community School District is a rural public school district headquartered in Stanwood, Iowa. The district is in portions of northern Cedar County and a small section of Jones County, and serves the communities of Stanwood, Mechanicsville, Clarence and Lowden, and surrounding unincorporated areas. Tennis is a racket sport that is played either individually against a single opponent ( singles) or between two teams of two players each ( doubles). Each player uses a tennis racket that is strung with cord to strike a hollow rubber ball covered with felt over or around a net and into the opponent's court. Scholastic wrestling, also known in the United States as folkstyle wrestling, is a style of amateur wrestling practiced at the high school and middle school levels in the United States. This wrestling style is essentially collegiate wrestling with some slight rule modifications.
