Hochfilzen
Hochfilzen is a town and municipality in the Kitzbühel district of the Austrian state of Tyrol. It is located in the Pillersee valley 5 km east of Fieberbrunn. Population was 1,147 in 2016. It is a popular winter sports resort, especially for cross-country skiing. In 2017 (9 to 19 February) it hosted the Biathlon World Championships, as it also did in 2005, 1998 and 1978, and it is a regular venue in the annual IBU World Cup series. Erik Lesser
Erik Lesser (born 17 May 1988) is a German former biathlete. In 2010, he ran his first single World Cup Race. At the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, he won a silver medal at Men's individual. At the Biathlon World Championships 2013 he won a bronze medal with the German team in Men's relay. His grandfather Axel Lesser competed in cross-country skiing for East Germany at the 1976 Winter Olympics. Career Erik Lesser, grandson of Axel Lesser, lives in Zella-Mehlis and trained mainly in Oberhof. His coach is Mark Kirchner, before Peter Sendel. Leif Nordgren
Leif Nordgren (born May 18, 1989 in Colorado Springs, Colorado) is an American biathlete. Living in Minnesota and introduced to biathlon by his elder sister Sonne at age 14, he started competing seriously in the sport at age 17. He placed top ten in all events in the 2008 Junior World Championships, obtaining a bronze medal in 10 km pursuit. Lowell Bailey (born July 15, 1981 in Siler City, North Carolina) is an American biathlon coach and retired biathlete who competed from 2001 until 2018. Career His first World Cup podium was a 2nd place (following a disqualification) in the second sprint event at Kontiolahti (FIN) in 2014., and his first World Cup victory came in the 20 km event at the 2017 Biathlon World Championships in Hochfilzen, Austria. He thus became the first biathlon world champion from the United States, as well as the oldest individual gold medalist at the World Championships in biathlon history, at 35 years and 216 days. At the 2006 Winter Olympics, he finished 27th in the individual, 46th in the sprint, and 48th in the pursuit events. Dmytro Pidruchnyi ( uk, Дмитро Підручний; born 5 November 1991) is a Ukrainian biathlete. He participated at 2014 and 2018 Winter Olympics. In March 2022, Pidruchnyi joined the Ukrainian National Guard to fight during the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine. Career Pidruchnyi was born in village Ostriv near Ternopil. Dmytro's first international competition was 2010 Junior World Championships in Swedish Torsby. He didn't have much success then. He also wasn't very successful next season. But at 2012 Junior Worlds in Kontiolahti he finally showed good results which allowed him to start in IBU Cup and debut in World Cup. Vladimir Semakov (russian: Владимир Сергеевич Семаков, ua, Володимир Сергійович Сємаков, born 11 May 1985, Izhevsk) is a Russian (until 2014) and Ukrainian (since 2014) biathlete of the World Cup level. Artem Pryma ( uk, Артем Прима, born 30 May 1987, Chernihiv, Ukrainian SSR) is a Ukrainian World Cup level biathlete. He participated at 2014 and 2018 Winter Olympics. Career Pryma began competing internationally in 2006 but only participated in junior competitions. He debuted at World Cup on 14 January 2010, in German Ruhpolding, where he was 41st in the sprint.
