Biathlon World Championships 1999
The 34th Biathlon World Championships were held in 1999 in Kontiolahti, Finland. Due to the cold, the individual and the mass start events were moved to Oslo, Norway. The mass start was contested for the first time in the world championships. Medal winners Men Women Medal table References

Biathlon World Championships
The first Biathlon World Championships (BWCH) was held in 1958, with individual and team contests for men. The number of events has grown significantly over the years. Beginning in 1984, women biathletes had their own World Championships, and finally, from 1989, both genders have been participating in joint Biathlon World Championships. In 1978 the development was enhanced by the change from the large army rifle calibre to a small bore rifle, while the range to the target was reduced from 150 to 50 meters. Venues The Biathlon World Championships of the season takes place during February or March. Some years it has been necessary to schedule parts of the Championships at other than the main venue because of weather and/or snow conditions. Pavel Rostovtsev
Pavel Aleksandrovich Rostovtsev (Russian: Павел Александрович Ростовцев; born 21 September 1971) is a Russian former biathlete. Life and career Rostovtsev lives in Krasnoyarsk. He is a three times world champion in biathlon. He has competed in the World Cup since the 1995–96 season. In 2000 he became World Champion with the Russian relay team in the World Championships in Lahti. The following year he won both the sprint and the pursuit in the World Championships in Pokljuka. In the 2001–02 season he came second in the overall World Cup standings. He hasn't won a single World Cup competition since the 2001–02 season. In the 2006 Olympics in Turin he was a part of the silver medal winning Russian relay team. In November 2006, Rostovtsev announced his retirement due to disagreements with the Russian Biathon Union. Katrin Apel (born 4 May 1973 in Erfurt) is a retired German biathlete. , . Apel now resides in Gräfenroda, and is a member of the SV Eintracht Frankenhain club. Like most German winter sport athletes, Apel is a sport soldier, performing normal soldier duties but released for training and competitions. Apel began her career as a cross-country skier; between 1990 and 1994, her best results were third place in the junior World Championships 5 km classical in 1993, and second in the relay also in the Junior World Championships, in 1990. However, when Apel failed to qualify for the Olympics in Lillehammer in 1994, she made the decision, along with her friend and then training partner Steffi Kramer, to switch to biathlon. Simone Greiner-Petter-Memm (born 15 September 1967) is a German cross-country skier and biathlete who competed from 1987 to 1997 in cross-country skiing and from 1992 to 2000 in biathlon. She was born in Jena, as Simone Greiner-Petter, as a cross-country skier at the 1988 Winter Olympics in Calgary, Greiner-Petter-Memm finished fifth in the 4 × 5 km relay and 15th in the 20 km event. Ursula "Uschi" Disl (; born 15 November 1970 in Bad Tölz, West Germany) is a German former biathlete. Albina Khamitovna Akhatova (russian: Альби́на Хами́товна Аха́това, tt-Cyrl, Альбина Хәмит кызы Әхәтова; born 13 November 1976) is a Russian (of Tatar origin) former biathlon, biathlete. Magdalena "Magda" Forsberg (née Wallin; born 25 July 1967) is a Swedish former cross-country skier and biathlete. She was the dominating female biathlete from 1997 to 2002, when she retired, winning the Biathlon World Cup for six years straight. Martina Zellner-Seidl (born 26 February 1974 in Traunstein) is a former Germany, German Biathlon, biathlete. By the end of her career she had won one Olympic gold and six world championship medals, (2 gold, 1 silver and 3 bronze).
