Martina Zellner
Martina Zellner-Seidl (born 26 February 1974 in Traunstein) is a former Germany, German Biathlon, biathlete. By the end of her career she had won one Olympic gold and six world championship medals, (2 gold, 1 silver and 3 bronze). In the Biathlon World Cup, World Cup she achieved 14 podium places with three victories. The best overall placing she achieved was in the 1997/98 season when she finished third. The biathlon is a winter sport that combines cross-country skiing and rifle shooting. It is treated as a race, with contestants skiing through a cross-country trail whose distance is divided into shooting rounds. World Biathlon Championships
The first Biathlon World Championships (BWCH) was held in 1958, with individual and team contests for men. The number of events has grown significantly over the years. Beginning in 1984, women biathletes had their own World Championships, and finally, from 1989, both genders have been participating in joint Biathlon World Championships. In 1978 the development was enhanced by the change from the large army rifle calibre to a small bore rifle, while the range to the target was reduced from 150 to 50 meters. Venues The Biathlon World Championships of the season takes place during February or March. Some years it has been necessary to schedule parts of the Championships at other than the main venue because of weather and/or snow conditions.
