Bev Shipley
Beverly "Bev" Shipley (born June 22, 1947 in Middlesex Centre, Ontario) is a retired farmer and politician in Ontario, Canada who served as the Member of Parliament for the riding of Lambton—Kent—Middlesex from 2006 to 2019 as a member of the Conservative Party. Shipley ran in the 2004 election for the Conservatives in Lambton—Kent—Middlesex but lost to incumbent Rose-Marie Ur of the Liberal Party of Canada by only 164 votes. Shipley won the seat in 2006 after Ur did not seek re-election, and was re-elected in 2008, 2011, and 2015. Shipley announced on July 9, 2018 that he would not be running in the 2019 federal election. Political life Shipley has championed various agriculture-related causes during his time in Parliament, including his Prime Member's Motion M-460. Rose-Marie Ur
Rose-Marie Margaret Ur (born July 28, 1946 in Glencoe, Ontario) is a Canadian politician. She was a member of the House of Commons of Canada from 1993 until 2005 and, in her final term in office, represented the riding of Middlesex—Kent—Lambton for the Liberal Party. Biography Ur was educated at the Strathroy Middlesex General Hospital, receiving certification as a registered nurse assistant in 1964. She practised in this field from 1963 to 1966, then left to work as a farmer until 1990. She also worked as a constituency assistant to provincial Member of Provincial Parliament (MPP) Doug Reycraft from 1986 to 1988, and federal Member of Parliament (MP) Ralph Ferguson from 1988 to 1993. 2004 Canadian Federal Election
The 2004 Canadian federal election was held on June 28, 2004, to elect members to the House of Commons of Canada of the 38th Parliament of Canada. The Liberal government of Prime Minister Paul Martin lost its majority but was able to continue in office as a minority government after the election. This was the first election contested by the newly amalgamated Conservative Party of Canada, after it was formed by the two right-of-centre parties, the Progressive Conservative Party and the Canadian Alliance. On May 23, 2004, the governor general, Adrienne Clarkson, on the advice of Martin, ordered the dissolution of the House of Commons, triggering an early election despite the Liberals being only three and a half years into their five-year mandate. William Atcheson Stewart
William Atcheson Stewart (February 26, 1915 – December 8, 1990) was a politician in Ontario, Canada. He was a Progressive Conservative member of the Legislative Assembly of Ontario from 1957 to 1975 who represented the southwestern Ontario riding of Middlesex North. He served as a cabinet minister in the governments of Leslie Frost, John Robarts, and Bill Davis. Background Stewart was a cattle farmer in Denfield, Ontario. Middlesex Centre
Middlesex Centre is a township (Canada), township in Middlesex County, Ontario, Middlesex County, in southwestern Ontario, Canada, north and west of London, Ontario, London. The Corporation of the Township of Middlesex Centre formed on January 1, 1998, with the amalgamation of the former Townships of Delaware, Lobo, and London (not to be confused with the adjacent city of London, Ontario, London). It is part of the London census metropolitan area. Middlesex Centre is halfway between two of the five Great Lakes. It is north of Lake Erie, and southeast of Lake Huron. Centralia College Of Agricultural Technology
Centralia College of Agricultural Technology was an agricultural college in Huron Park, Ontario near the town of Exeter. It opened in 1967 and operated under the direction of the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture and Food. The college used local farms, rather than a demonstration farm for field laboratories, in order to gain the cooperation of local farmers. The college was closed due to provincial government cutbacks in the 1993 budget. It closed in the spring of 1994. The college originally provided diplomas in Agricultural Business Management, Animal Health Technology, Food Service Management, and Home Economics. At the time of its closing, Centralia had the only veterinary technician course which was accredited by the Canadian Veterinary Medical Association.
