Betty Hill (politician)
Margaret Elizabeth Hill ( Dubois; May 12, 1937 – November 4, 2013) was a Canadian pre-amalgamation municipal politician in Ottawa, Ottawa, Ontario. She was the reeve of Richmond, Ontario and following amalgamation in 1974, was mayor of Goulbourn Township, Ontario until 1981. She also sat on the council of the Regional Municipality of Ottawa-Carleton. 1994 Ottawa-Carleton Regional Municipality elections, In 1994, she was elected to Ottawa-Carleton Regional Council, two years after getting a law degree. She won election by just 75 votes. She represented Western Townships Ward, which covered Goulbourn, Rideau Township, Ontario, Rideau and West Carleton Township, Ontario, West Carleton Townships. Jean Charest
John James "Jean" Charest (; born June 24, 1958) is a Canadian lawyer and former politician who served as the 29th premier of Quebec from 2003 to 2012 and the fifth deputy prime minister of Canada in 1993. Charest was elected to the House of Commons in 1984 and would serve in several federal cabinet positions between 1986 and 1993. He became the leader of the Progressive Conservative (PC) Party in 1993 and remained in the role until he entered provincial politics in 1998. Charest was elected as the leader of the Quebec Liberal Party, and his party went on to form government in 2003. Born in Sherbrooke, Quebec, Charest studied law and worked as a lawyer before he became a member of Parliament (MP) following the 1984 federal election. Goulbourn Ward
Stittsville (Ward 6) is a city ward in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, represented on Ottawa City Council. It consists of the community of Stittsville in suburban Ottawa. Prior to the 2006 election, the Ward was known as Goulbourn Ward which consisted of the former Goulbourn Township (including Stittsville and Richmond). The ward was altered in 2006, by losing all of the rural parts of Goulbourn (including urban Richmond) and gaining a tiny bit of the former city of Kanata around the Canadian Tire Centre. The ward was created when Goulbourn was amalgamated into Ottawa in 2000. It was known as Stittsville-Kanata West Ward until 2010. In 2014, the ward expanded to gain the newly built Blackstone subdivision from Rideau-Goulbourn Ward. The 2000 Ottawa municipal election was a municipal election that was held on November 13, 2000, in Ottawa. The elections were held for mayor of Ottawa, Ottawa City Council and a number of school trustees. These elections would mark the first for the newly amalgamated city, which added 10 former municipalities to Ottawa. At the time of the city elections, the amalgamation had not occurred yet; the official date of that happened on January 1, 2001. Mayoral race The race for mayor only had two major candidates, that of the Chair of the Regional Municipality of Ottawa-Carleton, Bob Chiarelli and the mayor of the City of Gloucester, Claudette Cain. Cain did very well in her native Gloucester, as well as in the more francophone areas like Cumberland and Vanier. Richmond, Ontario
Richmond is a suburban community, part of the Canadian capital of Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. Founded in 1818, it spans the Jock River, a tributary of the Rideau River. A part of the National Capital Region, Richmond is located 10kms southwest of Kanata and immediately south to the community of Stittsville. History After the War of 1812, loyal settlers were sought for Upper Canada (now Ontario). The United Empire Loyalists, who, after the American Revolution, had helped to settle areas further south and west in Upper Canada were being regarded with increasing suspicion. Instead, disbanded soldiers were the most immediate loyal settlers for this new era of development.
