Berthier County
Berthier County was a municipal county of Quebec which existed between 1855 and 1 January 1982. The territory it covered today is included in the administrative region of Lanaudière and is part of the current regional county municipalities (RMCs) of d'Autray and Matawinie. Its seat was the municipality of Berthierville. Berthier (electoral District)
Berthier was a federal electoral district in the Canadian province of Quebec that was represented in the House of Commons of Canada from 1867 to 1925. It was created by the ''British North America Act'', 1867, and was abolished in 1924 when it was merged into Berthier—Maskinongé riding. A second "Berthier" riding was created in 1966. Berthier is a provincial electoral district in the Lanaudière region of Quebec, Canada that elects members to the National Assembly of Quebec. It notably includes the municipalities of Lavaltrie, Saint-Félix-de-Valois, Lanoraie, Saint-Jean-de-Matha, Berthierville, Saint-Alphonse-Rodriguez, Saint-Gabriel and Saint-Gabriel-de-Brandon. It was created for the 1867 election (and an electoral district of that name existed earlier in the Legislative Assembly of the Province of Canada and the Legislative Assembly of Lower Canada). Saint-Michel-des-Saints is a municipality in the Matawinie Regional County Municipality of Quebec, Canada. Agriculture, forestry, recreation, and tourism have been the main activities found within this region. History In 1863, Thomas-Léandre Brassard settled near the falls of Pine Lake (''Lac des Pins'') where he built a mill and a manor. Three years later, there were 136 inhabitants. In 1870, the post office opened. By 1883, the Parish of Saint-Michel-des-Saints was officially formed and followed two years later in 1885 by the formation of the parish municipality. The name Saint-Michel-des-Saints, chosen by Ignace Bourget at the suggestion of Father Brassard, honours Michael de Sanctis who lived from 1591 to 1625. In 1929, the dam on the Matawin River was constructed that would result in the formation of the Taureau Reservoir. Saint-Gabriel-de-Brandon
Saint-Gabriel-de-Brandon is a municipality (Quebec), municipality in the D'Autray Regional County Municipality in the Lanaudière region of Quebec, Canada. History The first settlers, mostly Irish and Scottish Loyalists, came around 1825 to the shores of Lake Maskinongé, where they formed a community that was known as Lake Maskinongé Settlement by 1827, and later as the Mission of Lac-Maskinongé. In 1837, the name Saint-Gabriel-du-Lac-Maskinongé came in use but was changed to Saint-Gabriel-de-Brandon in 1840. This name refers to the angel Gabriel and the geographic township of Brandon that was proclaimed in 1827 and in which it is located. In 1851, the Parish of Saint-Gabriel-de-Brandon was founded and the post office opened that same year. In 1855, the parish municipality was established with the same name. Sainte-Geneviève-de-Berthier is a municipality in the Lanaudière region of Quebec, Canada, part of the D'Autray Regional County Municipality. It is crossed by the river La Chaloupe.
