Bert Turner (footballer, Born 1907)
Albert Turner (3 September 1907 – 1959) was an English footballer who played outside left in the 1930s for Hull City, Walsall, Doncaster Rovers, Cardiff City and Bristol Rovers. Playing career Doncaster Rovers Turner began his career at Hull City, then moved to Walsall for one and a bit seasons. He was then being brought to 3rd Division North side Doncaster, by manager David Menzies, midway through the 1933–34 season. Scoring on his debut on 16 December in a 4–2 home victory against Gateshead, that season he netted 14 goals over 22 games as Rovers finished the season in 5th position. The following season, he was the leading scorer at the club with 26, including 1 cup goal, an impressive achievement for a winger. On 16 February 1935, Turner scored 5 in a 7–1 win against visitors New Brighton. Reginald E. Baines (3 June 1907 – 21 October 1974) was an English footballer. Baines started his career with York City whilst the club was playing in the Midland League. He then played for Selby Town and Scarborough, until eventually re-joining York City in September 1931. He scored on his debut in the Football League against Carlisle United, which ended a 1–1 draw. Football League Third Division South
The Third Division South of The Football League was a tier in the English football league system from 1921 to 1958. It ran in parallel with the Third Division North with clubs elected to the League or relegated from Division Two allocated to one or the other according to geographical position. Some clubs in the English Midlands shuttled between the Third Division South and the Third Division North according to the composition of the two leagues in any one season. This division was created in 1921 from the Third Division, formed one year earlier when the Football League absorbed the leading clubs from the Southern League. The 1937–38 season was the 63rd season of competitive football (soccer), football in England. Overview Manchester City became the only team to have been relegated in the season after winning the league title as well as the only team to ever be relegated from the top tier of English football having scored the most goals in that particular season. The points spread between the league champions, Arsenal F.C., Arsenal, and the team that finished bottom of the league, West Bromwich Albion, was a mere 16 points. Fred Emery (footballer)
Frederick David Emery (19 May 1900 – 1959) was an English footballer who played as a wing half in the Football League with Doncaster Rovers in the 1920s and 1930s. He was born in Lincoln and signed for Lincoln City but did not play a senior game for them, before having a brief spell with Bradford City, amounting to five senior games. In the 1924–25 season he made his debut for Doncaster Rovers and was to go on and play 439 senior games for them (scoring 32 goals) in a playing career that was to last until the 1935–36 season. As of 2009 he holds the record for the most Football League appearances made for Doncaster. In 1936 he was appointed manager at Doncaster, a position he held until the war. On 25 October 1943, he was appointed manager of Bradford (Park Avenue) succeeding David Steele. He was fortunate to inherit a talented squad, and his management style went down well with the players.
