Bernstorffsvej
Bernstorffsvej is a major road in the Gentofte Municipality, located in the northern suburbs of Copenhagen, Denmark. It runs from Lyngby to a five-way roundabout on Jægersborg Allé in the north. The road passes several notable Danish buildings, including Gentofte Town Hall, Helleruplund Church, the Roman Catholic, St. Theresa's Church, Hellerup Cemetery and Bernstorff Park. History In 1752, the pheasantry at Jægersborg was given to Count Johann Hartwig Ernst von Bernstorff from the King. Bernstorff Palace was later completed by him in 1765. Jean Marmillod, a French engineer, was called to Denmark by Bernstorff to improve the road systems around Copenhagen. Marmillod thus became responsible for the construction of Bernstorffsvej, which he completed in 1770. Bernstorffsvej Station
Bernstorffsvej station is a commuter rail railway station serving the northeastern part of the district of Hellerup in Gentofte Municipality in the northern suburbs of Copenhagen, Denmark. The station is located on the Hillerød branch of the S-train network in Copenhagen, Denmark, served by the E-line between Høje Taastrup station and Holte station while the longer A-line doesn't stop at this station. The station is served every 10th minute in each direction. The station was opened on 15 May 1936, together with the S-train line Hellerup-Holte. It has altered very little since, except for the addition of a lift and a viaduct across Bernstorffsvej, which was rebuilt in 1969. Helleruplund Church
Helleruplund Church (Danish: Helleruplund Kirke) is a Church of Denmark parish church situated at Bernstorffsvej 73 in Hellerup. Gentofte Municipality, Greater Copenhagen, Denmark. With just over 600 seats, it is the second largest church in the Diocese of Helsingør. History A new church in the Bernstorffsvej area was first proposed in 1940. A committee was put in charge of realizing the project in 1942. A site was also acquired. The chair of the committee was the chaplain from Hellerup Church, Nørup-Nielsen, who would later become the first pastor of Helleruplund Church. He was the one who proposed the name with a reference to the property at Bernstorffsvej 98. The construction of the church was delayed by World War II and the shortage of building materials that followed after the liberation. Jægersborg Allé
Jægersborg Allé is a major street in the Charlottenlund and Jægersborg neighborhoods of Gentofte Municipality in the northern suburbs of Copenhagen, Denmark. It runs from Strandvejen in the southeast to a junction just east of Kægersborg station in the northwest. The first leg of the road passes through Charlottenlund Forest, and it later follows the north boundary of Bernstorff Park. It passes a number of historic buildings, including Charlottenlund Palace, Bernstorff Palace and Schæffergården. History Jægersborg Allé was built on the orders of King Christian V by farmers from the parish of Gentofte. It is first mentioned in 1695, and it is believed that it was completed in the summer of 1706. Gentofte
Gentofte () is a district of Gentofte Municipality in the northern suburbs of Copenhagen, Denmark. Major landmarks include Gentofte Town Hall, Gentofte Hospital and Gentofte Church. Gentofte Lake with surrounding parkland and nature reserves form the most important greenspace. Geography Gentofte is roughly bounded by Lyngbyvej to the west, the S-train line to Hillerød to the northeast, Bernstorffsvej to the east and Kildegårdsvej to the south. The southern border with Hellerup is, however, not clearly defined. Gentofte postal district has a somewhat different definition. Alf Cock-Clausen
Alf Cock-Clausen (2 March 1886 – 10 July 1983) was a Danish architect. He was active during the transition from Neoclassicism to Functionalism and many of his works show influence from Art Deco. His factory for the distillery De Danske Spritfabrikker at Aalborg's harbour front was declared a Danish Industrial Heritage Site in 2009. Other works include the headquarters of publisher Guttenberghus (now Egmont Media), now partly converted into the Danish Film Institute, and the Richshuset in Copenhagen. Early life and education Alf Cock-Claussen was born in Copenhagen, the son of Ludvig Clausen who was also an architect, working at city architect Ludvig Fenger's office. Sankt Lukas Stiftelsen is a Deacon institution located at Bernstorffsvej 20 in Hellerup, Gentofte Municipality, Copenhagen, Denmark. History Sankt Lukas Stiftelsen was founded by Isabelle Brockenhuus-Løwenhielm and pastor Vilhelm Kold from Indre Mission on 8 May 1900. Its current premises were inaugurated in 1932. The land had previously belonged to the Lundegaard estate. The buildings were designed by the architect Valdemar Birkmand and Aage Rafn. Hellerup Cemetery
Hellerup Cemetery (Danish: Gellerup Kirkegård) is a cemetery in Hellerup in the northern suburbs of Copenhagen, Denmark. It is located on Bernstorffsvej and was inaugurated on 4 February 1912. The cemetery serves Gentofte Municipality and the northnmost part of Copenhagen Municipality. History The establishment of a cemetery in Hellerup was first proposed in 1907 and Gentofte Municipality acquired a piece of land from Ibenske Jorder and laid it out as a burial site the following year. In 1912, after the local land owners' association had complained about the "scandalous state" of the site, the municipality commissioned a landscape architect to redesign the cemetery which was inaugurated on 4 February that same year. Gentofte Town Hall
Gentofte Town Hall ( Danish: Gentofte Rådhus) is the administrative centre of Gentofte Municipality in the northern suburbs of Copenhagen, Denmark. The main building is from 1939 and is situated on Bernstorffsvej. Gentofte Fire Station is situated next to the town hall. History Gentofte's former town hall was from 1903. It was located at the corner of L.E. Bruunsvej and Rådhusvej and had already been too small 15 years after it was inaugurated. In 1934, the civil parish of Gentofte (Gentofte Sognekommune) obtained a status similar to that of a market town. Gentofte's first mayor became colonel Parkov. Gentofte Fire Station
Gentofte Fire Station (Danish: Gentofte Brandstation) is situated adjacent to Gentofte Town Hall on Bernstorffsvej in Gentofte Municipality, Greater Copenhagen, Denmark. It is operated by Beredskab Øst. History Gentofte Fire Department was founded on 17 May 1902 with volunteer personnel at six local fire stations (''sprøjtehuse'') in Gentofte, Ordrup, Skovshovede, Hellerup, Jægersborg and Vangede. Thorvald Jørgensen
Thorvald Jørgensen (27 June 1867 - 15 May 1946) was a Danish architect, most known for his design of Christiansborg Palace, the seat of the Danish Parliament, after it had been destroyed in a fire. He has also designed a number of churches in Copenhagen. He was Royal Building Inspector from 1911 to 1938. Early life and education Thorval Jørgen was born in Norsminde outside Aarhus, Denmark. He completed a carpenter's apprenticeship in Aarhus in 1885 and then moved to Copenhagen where he was admitted to the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts the same year, where he was taught by Hans Jørgen Holm, Martin Nyrop, Ferdinand Meldahl and Albert Jensen. He graduated in 1889, won the Academy's large gold medal in 1893 for ''A church with rectory'', and then worked for Hans Jørgen Holm on the ''Overformynderiet'' institution building in Copenhagen from 1892 to 1893.
