Benoît Jacquot
Benoît Jacquot (; born 5 February 1947) is a French film director and screenwriter who has had a varied career in European cinema. Life and career Born in Paris, Jacquot began his career as assistant director of Marguerite Duras films, including '' Nathalie Granger'', ''India Song'', and also actor in the 1973 short film ''La Sœur du cadre''. He turned to writing and directing with the 1975 film ''The Musician Killer'', which starred Anna Karina. He has directed over forty films, the most notable of which to American audiences are '' La Désenchantée'' (1990), starring Judith Godrèche, and '' A Single Girl'' (1995), starring Virginie Ledoyen. In 2003, he directed Massenet's opera ''Werther'' conducted by Antonio Pappano at Royal Opera House, Covent Garden. His film ''Farewell, My Queen'' opened the 62nd Berlin International Film Festival in February 2012. Antonio Pappano
Sir Antonio Pappano (born 30 December 1959) is an English-Italian conductor and pianist. He is currently music director of the Royal Opera House and of the Orchestra dell'Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia. He is scheduled to become chief conductor of the London Symphony Orchestra in 2024. Early life Pappano was born in Epping, Essex. Pappano's family had relocated to England from Castelfranco in Miscano near Benevento, Italy, in 1958, and at the time of his birth his parents worked in the restaurant business. His father, Pasquale Pappano, was by vocation a singing teacher. When Pappano was 13 years old, he moved with his family to Connecticut. ''Return to the Beloved'' (french: Retour à la bien-aimée) is a 1979 French drama film directed by Jean-François Adam. Plot Julien, a well-known concert pianist until his divorce, has become obsessed with regaining his ex-wife Jeanne and their little son Thomas. Living in his family home outside Paris that he left to her, she has married a German doctor named Stephan and broken off all contact with him. He blackmails a private detective named Keller to murder the husband but, as the man approaches the house at night, Julien instead shoots him dead with Stephan's revolver that he had stolen earlier. ''Television: A Challenge to the Psychoanalytic Establishment'' is the 1990 English-language translation of Jacques Lacan's text "Télévision" accompanied by a "Dossier on the Institutional Debate". The single volume thus includes two distinct projects which were separately translated. Lacan's "Television" In 1973, the film maker Benoît Jacquot approached Jacques Lacan via Jacques-Alain Miller with the idea of making a film on Lacan and his teaching. Lacan soon agreed to the project, which ultimately took the form of Miller posing questions to which Lacan replied at some length in a semi-improvised manner. The final edited film, commissioned by the ORTF, was broadcast in two parts on prime-time television (8.30pm on two consecutive Saturday evenings) under the title "Psychanalyse".
