Benedictus (Ben) Springer (Amsterdam, 19 June 1897 - Paris, 29 August 1960) was a Dutch draughts Checkers (American English), also known as draughts (; British English), is a group of strategy board games for two players which involve diagonal moves of uniform game pieces and mandatory captures by jumping over opponent pieces. Checkers ... player with a national Grand master title. He became world champion in 1928. One of the standard combinations in draughts, the Coup Springer, is named after him. Dutch championships Springer took part in the Dutch championships of draughts in 1919 and 1920. He finished in both tournaments with a positive score but came in 4th and 3rd respectively. World championschip Springer became world champion of draughts in 1928 in Amsterdam. He ended above Alfred Molimard. Checkers (American English), also known as draughts (; British English), is a group of strategy board games for two players which involve diagonal moves of uniform game pieces and mandatory captures by jumping over opponent pieces. Checkers is developed from alquerque. The term "checkers" derives from the checkered board which the game is played on, whereas "draughts" derives from the verb "to draw" or "to move". The most popular forms of checkers in Anglophone countries are American checkers (also called English draughts), which is played on an 8×8 checkerboard; Russian draughts, Turkish draughts both on an 8x8 board, and International draughts, played on a 10×10 board – the latter is widely played in many countries worldwide. Alfred Molimard
Alfred Molimard (October 29, 1888 in Serres, Hautes-Alpes – January 25, 1943) was a draughts grandmaster from France. He joined a group devoted to the game in Lyon in 1907 and by 1909 was the champion of the town. He initially tended to lose against Isidore Weiss Isidore Weiss (1867 – June 12, 1936) was a Frenchman who won seven world championships for international draughts from 1899 to 1911, a record not surpassed until Alexei Chizhov Alexei Rudolfovich Chizhov (russian: Алексей Рудоль ..., but by 1912 he was the European champion in the game. In the same year he received his doctorate in medicine. He became less active in the game in the 1920s and after 1928 was primarily a teacher. He died from a cerebral hemorrhage on January 25, 1943.
