Belgachia Metro Station
Belgachia metro station (or Theism Belgachia metro station for sponsorship reasons) is a station of the Kolkata Metro. It is located at Belgachia. History Belgachia Station was commissioned by the Kolkata Metro as part of the first transit line of the metro system, commonly known as the North-South corridor. The station was the penultimate stop before Dum Dum, which, until the opening of the Noapara stop, was the terminal station on the railway system. The station became the first underground station on the northern side and continues to be one of the shallowest, lying at a depth of only 5 metres below Belgachia Road. As part of the drive to increase non-fare revenue of the Kolkata Metro, the station was leased for branding and semi-naming rights to Kolkata-based conglomerate, Theism Group, rebranding it as Theism Belgachia officially. Kolkata railway station (formerly known as Chitpur station) is the newest of the five intercity railway stations serving Howrah and Kolkata, India; the others are Sealdah station in Kolkata and Howrah station, Shalimar station and in Howrah. Kolkata station is situated in the Chitpur locality of North Kolkata. History The place where the station is situated was formerly a large goods yard. The present car and bus parking areas, as well as the path to the station, formed part of a coal loading yard. The tram system in the city of Kolkata, West Bengal, India, operated by West Bengal Transport Corporation (WBTC) after Calcutta Tramways Company (CTC) was dissolved, is the oldest existing tram network operating in India, and oldest operating tramway in Asia. Started in 1902, it is the second oldest electric tramway in India (the Madras electric street tramway being the first). Kolkata Monorail was a rail-based transit project planned for the city of Kolkata, West Bengal, India. This was the first proposed monorail in the country. In November that 2008, the first corridor (Budge Budge to Taratala) was finalised and the project was awarded to Andromeda Technologies, at a total cost of Rs. 1,200 crore, along with a German company, Derap AG & Helbling Technik AG and Fernmeldewerk Munchen Aubing, as technology and signalling partners, respectively. Kolkata Metro Rail Corporation (KMRC) is a Government of India enterprise formed in 2008. The agency was formed to oversee the implementing Kolkata Metro Line 2, also known as East West Metro, connecting the twin cities Kolkata and Howrah. The under construction metro rail route will be partly underground including the part that will be under the river Ganges.
