Belclare
Belclare () is a small village in County Galway, western Ireland. The village is on the R333 road approximately 7 km. from Tuam. It has a little parish church (The Church of the Sacred Heart), a small primary school, a shop, pub and post office, a community centre, a GAA pitch and a playground. Geography Knockma, also known as Castle Hackett hill, is situated 2 km west of Belclare. Maeve, the legendary Queen of Connacht, is reputed to be buried in the Cairn on the summit of the hill - from there are panoramic views. Belclare is part of the parish of Corofin. Politics Mark Killilea Jnr, the Fianna Fáil politician noted for describing supporters of his party as "people who eat their dinner in the middle of the day", lived in Belclare and died at his home there. Galway East is a parliamentary constituency represented in Dáil Éireann, the lower house of the Irish parliament or Oireachtas. Corofin GAA (Galway)
Corofin GAA is a Gaelic Athletic Association club based in Corofin, County Galway, Ireland. The club serves the two parishes of Cummer and Kilmoylan and Belclare. Corofin are the 2019–20 All-Ireland Club Champions, after winning their third-successive All-Ireland Senior Club Football Championship final by defeating Kilcoo of Down in January 2020. History The club has had a long association with the GAA dating back as far as its inception. Corofin born and long time local parish priest, Dr Patrick Duggan, who was then Bishop of Clonfert was Michael Cusack's first choice to be the clerical patron of the new association in 1884. Seán Canney
Seán Canney (born 6 April 1960) is an Irish Independent politician who has been a Teachta Dála (TD) for the Galway East constituency since 2016. He served as a Minister of State from 2016 to 2017 and again from 2018 to 2020. A native of Belclare, Tuam, County Galway. Canney was campaign manager for his brother-in-law, Paddy McHugh, in the 2002 general election, in which McHugh gained a seat in the Galway East constituency. As an Independent candidate, Canney was elected to Galway County Council in 2004, on his first attempt. He was re-elected in each of the subsequent local elections in 2009 and 2014. In both the 2009 and 2014 elections, he topped the poll in the Tuam local electoral area. 2019–20 All-Ireland Senior Club Football Championship
The 2019–20 All-Ireland Senior Club Football Championship was the 50th staging of the All-Ireland Senior Club Football Championship since its establishment by the Gaelic Athletic Association in 1970-71. The championship began on 20 October 2019 and ended on 19 January 2020. Corofin entered the championship as the defending champions. On 19 January 2020, Corofin won the championship following a 1-12 to 0-07 defeat of Kilcoo in the All-Ireland final at Croke Park. It was their fifth championship title overall, while they also became the first team to win three successive championships. Kilcoo GAC
Kilcoo Owen Roes (Irish: Eoghan Rúa Cill Chua) is a Gaelic Athletic Association club from Kilcoo, County Down, Northern Ireland. They are the most successful club in the Down Senior Football Championship having won it 19 times. The club has also won the Ulster Senior Club Football Championship twice and the All-Ireland Senior Club Football Championship once. History Kilcoo GAC was founded in 1906 although there were records of GAA being played there since the 1880s; a proper club wasn't formed until then. The club's first competitive match took place on 13 January 1907 against local team Liatroim (who were the first club formed in the county). The match ended with Kilcoo 0–0 Leitrim 0–5. Dr Crokes is a Gaelic football and hurling club based in Killarney in County Kerry, Republic of Ireland, Ireland. Notable players include Colm Cooper.
