Beimen Island Presbyterian Church
The Beimen Island Presbyterian Church () is a church in Beimen District, Tainan, Taiwan. History The church was originally established in September 1959 as part of the Beimen Mission. In May 1960, the church began accepting patients. They distributed free clothing and groceries. Beimen District () is a coastal District (Taiwan), district of about 10,307 residents in Tainan, Taiwan. Tainan
Tainan (), officially Tainan City, is a Special municipality (Taiwan), special municipality in southern Taiwan facing the Taiwan Strait on its western coast. Taiwan has a Christian minority, making up about 3.9% of its population. Roughly half of Taiwan's Christians are Catholic, and half Protestant. Due to the small number of practitioners, Christianity has not influenced the island nation's Han Chinese culture in a significant way. Taiwan Blackfoot Disease Socio-Medical Service Memorial House
The Taiwan Blackfoot Disease Socio-Medical Service Memorial House () is a former clinic building in Yonglong Village, Beimen District, Tainan, Taiwan. History The memorial house used to be a clinic for Wang King-ho, a doctor who had fought the adverse effects of "" (arsenic poisoning) for 25 years by offering free medical services to patients from Beimen and the surrounding regions. Tainan County Magistrate Su Huan-chih and Department of Cultural Affairs Commissioner Ye Tzer-shan then proposed for the reconstruction of the clinic into a memorial house to preserve the history of the disease in Taiwan. Construction began in November 2006 and ended in September 2007. It was then opened by President Chen Shui-bian in end of September of the same year.
