Begun Movement
The Begun farmer's movement (in Hindi and Rajasthani:बेगून किसान आंदोलन) was one of the farmer's movements of Rajasthan during British Raj in India. Begun is a village in Chittorgarh district. It was a movement of peasants against high taxes by then Mewar government.Rajasthan Ka Itihaas by S.Singh Matharu,Sikhwala Publications. This movement was started from Menal in 1921 where farmers gathered and decided for struggle against government for demand of implementing taxation system fair and reasonable. Vijay Singh Pathik gave leadership of this movement to Ramnarayan Chaudhary. The farmers decided not to pay Lags and Begars (Taxes and labour work) as well as to boycott courts and government offices. In reaction the government launched an operation of crushing the movement. Chittorgarh District
Chittorgarh district is one of the 33 districts of Rajasthan state in western India. The historic city of Chittaurgarh is the administrative headquarters of the district. The district was established on 1 August 1948 by integrating portions of various princely states: Mewar, Pratabgarh, Tonk, and Jhalawar. Chittaurgarh is famous for the Chittor fort, home to various famous Rajput dynasties. Mewar
Mewar or Mewad is a region in the south-central part of Rajasthan state of India. It includes the present-day districts of Bhilwara, Chittorgarh, Pratapgarh, Rajsamand, Udaipur, Pirawa Tehsil of Jhalawar District of Rajasthan, Neemuch and Mandsaur of Madhya Pradesh and some parts of Gujarat. For centuries, the region was ruled by Rajputs. Vijay Singh Pathik
Vijay Singh Pathik (born Bhoop Singh; 1882–1954), popularly known as Rashtriya Pathik, was an Indian revolutionary. He was among the first Indian revolutionaries who lit the torch of freedom movement against British rule. Much before Mohandas K. Gandhi initiated the Satyagrah movement, Pathik experimented during the Bijolia’s Kisan agitation. After being implicated in the Lahore conspiracy case in 1915, he changed his name to Vijay Singh Pathik. His grandfather's sacrifice in the struggle of 1857 in Bulandshahr district, affected him deeply to be freedom fighter. Early life Pathik was born in 1882 in Guthawali village, Bulandshahar district to Hamir Singh and Kamal Kunwari in a Hindu Gurjar family. His father had taken active part in the Sepoy Mutiny of 1857 and was arrested multiple times.
