Battle Of Kherson
The Battle of Kherson was a military engagement between Russian and Ukrainian forces that began on 24 February 2022 as part of the southern Ukraine offensive of the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine. The battle ended on 2 March 2022 with the capture of the city of Kherson and a pocket of land on the right bank of the Dnieper river by Russian forces. It was the first major city, and the only regional capital, to be captured by Russian forces during the 2022 invasion. The Russian occupation of Kherson Oblast followed thereafter. On 29 August 2022, a Ukrainian counteroffensive in the oblast began. Russian forces were ordered to withdraw from Kherson and pullout across the Dnieper on 9 November 2022. Southern Ukraine Offensive
The southern Ukraine campaign is an ongoing theatre of operation in the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine which began on 24 February 2022. From their base in Russian-occupied Crimea, the Russian Armed Forces attacked Kherson Oblast, Mykolaiv Oblast, and Zaporizhzhia Oblast in southern Ukraine, battling the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Elements from the southern Russian offensive joined forces with elements from the eastern Ukraine offensive to jointly surround and bombard the city of Mariupol in Donetsk Oblast, which fell after months of siege. Ihor Viktorovych Kolykhaiev ( uk, Ігор Вікторович Колихаєв; born on 8 May 1971) is a Ukrainian politician who has served as mayor of Kherson since the 2020 Ukrainian local elections. Kolykhaiev is former People's Deputy of Ukraine, elected in the 2019 Ukrainian parliamentary election. The Antonivka Road Bridge, also known as the Antonivskyi Bridge (, ), was a box girder bridge that crossed the Dnieper river in Kherson, Kherson Oblast, southern Ukraine.
