Battle Of Camalig
The Battle of Camalig in Albay province, Philippines, was fought on April 2, 1898 between the forces of colonial Spanish government in Bicol Region and Bicolanos under Bicolano revolutionaries General Vito Belarmino (the Zone Commander of Katipunero Forces in the Bicol Region), Simeón Ola, and Glicerio Delgado during the Philippine Revolutionary War. The latter were victorious in this battle, and General Vito Belarmino, in gratitude to his leadership, promoted Ola to the rank of Captain. Camalig, officially the Municipality of Camalig ( bcl, Banwaan kan Camalig; tl, Bayan ng Camalig), is a 1st class municipality in the province of Albay, Philippines. According to the 2020 census, it had a population of 72,042 people. It is known for one of Bicol's finest delicacy, Pinangat. In 1952, there was a mass conversion of certain ''sitio''s into ''barrio''s (now barangays), namely: Anoling, Binanderahan, Cabraran Pequeño, Cabangan, Ilawod, Mabugna, Magogon, Quinuartilan, Solong, and Sumlang. Vito Belarmino
Vito Belarmino, or Vito Belarmino Loyola was a general during the Philippine Revolution. During the revolution, he was codenamed "Walang Gulat" by fellow Katipuneros.He was placed by Emilio Aguinaldo in command in the province of Albay. There, he established a republican government. He was a Major general. Battles He joined Aguinaldo in the assault against Infantry Battalion No. 72 of the Spanish Army stationed in Talisay, Batangas, Talisay, Batangas. In this encounter, Aguinaldo left to him the leadership of the successful attack on the convent and church and on the Spanish guards. Simeón Ola
Simeón Ola y Arboleda (September 2, 1865 – February 14, 1952) is a hero of the Philippine Revolution and was the last general of the Philippines to surrender to the American forces after the Philippine–American War. Biography Simeón Ola was born on September 2, 1865 to Vicente Ola and Apolonia Arboleda. He was enrolled in Mater Salutis College Seminary and studied Philosophy, but didn't finish the course. He joined the local branch of the Katipunan in his hometown province of Albay and later became the leader. With the help of a parish priest he was able to acquire arms to support his men. He was promoted to the rank of captain after the battle of Camalig in Albay, 1898 and again promoted to the rank of major after a daring ambush mission that led to the capture of three Americans. Fernando Primo de Rivera y Sobremonte, 1st Marquess of Estella (24 July 1831 – 23 May 1921) was a Spanish politician and soldier.
