Basketball Northern Territory
Basketball Northern Territory (BNT) is the governing body of basketball in the Northern Territory, Australia. BNT was founded as Northern Territory Basketball Association (NTBA) in 1948. Basketball was administered by NTBA until 1963, when its Constitution was amended and the Darwin Amateur Basketball Association (DABA) was formed. The lease on Darwin's main basketball court at Daly Street was transferred from NTBA to DABA in 1974. In the 1980s DABA became known as Darwin Basketball Association (DBA) and in the 1990s NTBA became known as Basketball Northern Territory. In 2022, the NBL1 North had a club from Darwin – the Darwin Salties – represented for the first time under the joint management of DBA and BNT. Basketball is a team sport in which two teams, most commonly of five players each, opposing one another on a rectangular Basketball court, court, compete with the primary objective of #Shooting, shooting a basketball (ball), basketball (approximately in diameter) through the defender's hoop (a basket in diameter mounted high to a Backboard (basketball), backboard at each end of the court, while preventing the opposing team from shooting through their own hoop. Marrara is a northern suburb of the city of Darwin, Northern Territory, Australia. History Shown on Goyder's original surveys of Darwin in 1869 was the swamp between the suburb and the Darwin International Airport, but like Leanyer, the name is believed to be derived from an Aboriginal name for the area. NBL1 North
NBL1 North, formerly the Queensland Basketball League (QBL), is a semi-professional basketball league in Queensland and Northern Territory, Australia, comprising both a men's and women's competition. In 2020, Basketball Queensland partnered with the National Basketball League (NBL) to bring NBL1 to Queensland.
