Barrandov
Barrandov is a neighbourhood in southwest Prague, Czech Republic, located in the cadastral district of Hlubočepy, in Prague 5. It is situated on and around some rock formations above the Vltava River. Barrandov is known for its film industry and the film studios located in the old part of the district. The Czech national television services Nova and Barrandov TV broadcast from here. Old Barrandov consists of the villa quarter, Barrandov Terraces, and Barrandov Studios, and New Barrandov is located to the west of the old part. Barrandov has a population of about 20,000. A new tram line into New Barrandov was built in 2003. Barrandov Studios
Barrandov Studios is a set of film studios in Prague, Czech Republic. It is the largest film studio in the country and one of the largest in Europe. Several major Hollywood productions have been made here, including ''Mission Impossible'', '' The Bourne Identity'', '' Casino Royale'', '' G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra'', '' The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe'', ''The Zookeeper's Wife'', and others. Barrandov Terraces (Czech: ''Barrandovské terasy'') is a complex of buildings in the southern part of Prague, Czech Republic. TV Barrandov is a Czech television channel, launched in 2009. It was founded and started to broadcast in 2009. It currently broadcasts in Czech. In 2015 after Chinese company CEFC China Energy invested in TV Barrandov's parent company Empresa Media, the tone of TV Barrandov's coverage of China changed with all neutral and negative reporting about China being replaced by positive reporting. Prague 5
Prague 5, formally the Prague Municipal District (''Městská čast Praha 5''), is a second-tier municipality in Prague. The administrative district (''správní obvod'') of the same name consists of municipal districts Prague 5 and Slivenec. Prague 5 is one of the largest districts of Prague located at the west side of the Vltava river. It comprises Smíchov, Radlice, Košíře, Barrandov, Zlíchov, Zličín, Jinonice, Hlubočepy, Motol, Slivenec, Butovice, Chuchle, and Klukovice, as well as a very small part of Malá Strana. The district was the first one in Prague that offered free wireless internet connection to its citizens. Prague 5 is growing more important since the reconstruction of Anděl on Smíchov. Joachim Barrande
Joachim Barrande (11 August 1799 – 5 October 1883) was a French geologist and palaeontologist. Career Barrande was born at Saugues, Haute Loire, and educated in the École Polytechnique and École Nationale des Ponts et Chaussées at Paris. Although he had received the training of an engineer, his first appointment was that of tutor to the duc de Bordeaux (afterwards known as the comte de Chambord), grandson of Charles X, and when the king abdicated in 1830, Barrande accompanied the royal exiles to England and Scotland, and afterwards to Prague. Settling in that city in 1831, he became occupied in engineering works, and his attention was then attracted to the fossils from the Lower Palaeozoic rocks of Bohemia. The publication in 1839 of ''Murchison's Silurian System'' incited Barrande to carry on systematic researches on the equivalent strata in Bohemia. Prokop Valley
Prokop Valley ( cs, Prokopské údolí) is a recreational area in southwestern Prague, located in the districts of Barrandov, Holyně, Řeporyje, Stodůlky and Hlubočepy. It encompasses two streams, Dalejský potok and Prokopský potok, the latter of which is surrounded by a valley, despite the fact that it is much shorter. The area includes a natural reserve which encompasses a far wider area than the valley. In the valley there was once a limy open-cast mine, therefore a lake and a cave cropped up. The first attempts to gain lime were in the year 1860. The territory is equipped with benches. Vltava
Vltava ( , ; german: Moldau ) is the longest river in the Czech Republic, running southeast along the Bohemian Forest and then north across Bohemia, through Český Krumlov, České Budějovice and Prague, and finally merging with the Labe at Mělník.
