Baroda Group
The Baroda Group refers to the artists involved with the Faculty of Fine Arts at Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda, now known as Vadodara in Gujarat state of India. An experimental art school that drew artists of a variety of backgrounds, the Baroda Group offered an alternative to the nationalism associated with Santiniketan and the Bengal School. The dynamic group was formed in 1957 under the guidance of N. S. Bendre. Prominent artists associated with the group were N. S. Bendre, Bhupen Khakhar, Gulam Mohammed Sheikh, Ratan Parimoo, Rekha Rodwittiya, Jyotsna Bhatt, Vivan Sundaram, K. G. Subramanyan and Jeram Patel. Maharaja Sayajirao University Of Baroda
The Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda, formerly Baroda College, is a public university in the city of Vadodara, in Gujarat state, India. Originally established as a college in 1881, it became a university in 1949 after the independence of the country. It was later renamed after its benefactor Maharaja Sayajirao Gaekwad III, the former ruler of Baroda State. The university offers undergraduate, post-graduate, and doctoral programs. It houses 89 departments spread over 6 campuses (2 rural and 4 urban) covering 275 acres of land. History The university has its origins in the Baroda College, established in 1881 by Baroda State. Nalini Malani
Nalini Malani (born 19 February 1946) is a contemporary Indian artist widely acknowledged to be among the country's first generation of video artists. She works with several mediums which include theater, videos, installations along with mixed media paintings and drawings. The subjects of her creations are deeply influenced by her experience of migration in the aftermath of the partition of India. Subsequently, pressing feminist issues have also become a part of her creative output. Malani has evolved a visual language that is iconic, moving from stop motion, erasure animations, reverse paintings and most recently to digital animations, where she draws directly with her finger onto a tablet. The Calcutta Group was a group of modern artists in India, formed in 1943 in Kolkata. It has the distinction of being the first artistic movement of its kind in both Bengal and all of India. Group 1890
The ''GROUP 1890'' exhibition was held from 20 to 29 October 1963 at Lalit Kala Akademi, Rabindra Bhavan in New Delhi, India. It was the only exhibition of the artist collective 'group 1890', hence the only existing record of the group's exhibition history in the 1960s contemporary art in India. The group was an entirely male association with 12 members which 'stood passionately and romantically for values of modernism that signaled change'. The members were Raghav Kaneria, M. Reddeppa Naidu, Ambadas Khobragade, Rajesh Mehra, Gulam Mohammed Sheikh, Jagdish Swaminathan, Himmat Shah, Jeram Patel, S. G. Nikam, Eric Bowen, Jyoti Bhatt, and Balkrishna Patel. Jayant Parikh
Jayant Parikh (born 2 April 1940) is an Indian artist, printmaker, and muralist. He is a student of N. S. Bendre, K. G. Subramanyan and Sankho Chaudhuri. He lives and works in Vadodara, India. His work is held in the collections of the National Gallery of Modern Art (in New Delhi, Mumbai, and Bangaluru) and the Lalit Kala Akademi in New Delhi. Indian Radical Painters' And Sculptors' Association
The Indian Radical Painters' and Sculptors' Association, also known as the Radical Painters' and Sculptors' Association, the Kerala Radicals, or the Radical Group, was a group of leftisit artists that primarily consisted of Keralites working in Baroda. The group informally originated with the 1985 exhibition ''Seven Young Sculptors'' before becoming an active collective of artists who worked and exhibited between 1987 and 1989. The group ended with the suicide of sculptor and leader K. P. Krishnakumar. Other notable artists included K. M. Madhusudhanan, CK Rajan, Alex Mathew and Anita Dube, the only female and non-Keralite member. Sudhir Patwardhan
Sudhir Patwardhan is an Indian contemporary painter and a practising radiologist. Early life Patwardhan was born in Pune, Maharashtra in 1949. Jogen Chowdhury
Jogen Chowdhury (born 19 February 1939) is an eminent Indian painter and considered an important painter of 21st century India. He lives and works in Santiniketan.
