Banks (Barbados) Breweries Ltd. is a Caribbean brewery founded in 1961 in St. Michael, Barbados. It is part of the Banks Holdings Limited group. History Banks Beer was started as an idea formed by Peter D'Aguiar, a Guyanese entrepreneur. On September 7, 1961, Banks (Barbados) Breweries opened for business. In the beginning, the company only produced Banks Beer but by 1963 the company added two other products to its portfolio: Milk Stout and Tiger brand Malt, the latter of which can be found in the Caribbean, South America, Asia, Canada, Europe and the United States. Banks first began exporting in 1968, with the first two export countries of Saint Vincent and Dominica located nearby. Wildey Sports and Cultural Club is a cricket club in Barbados. The club competes in the Barbados Cricket Association Elite Division competition, the premier cricket competition in Barbados. The club was established in 1964 for and by employees of Banks Brewery, a leading brewery in Barbados and until 2014 was called Banks Sports and Cultural ClubSandiford, p. 22. Banks DIH Ltd. is a publicly traded food and beverage manufacturer in Guyana that can trace its origins back to 1840. It is one of the leading local manufacturers. History The company originates from a rum business founded in the 1840s by Jose Gomes D'Aguiar, which expanded into a chain of liquor stores. The business grew in 1885 with the addition of a Cocoa and Chocolate Factory and a Schooner Shipping Agency. In 1896 the four sons of the founder formed the D'Aguiar Bros partnership, and bought the Demerara Ice House (DIH).
