Bangui Sporting Club is a Central African basketball team based in Bangui. the team plays in the Bangui Basketball League (LBBB) and has won the championship in 2022. Founded in 2017 as GIBA-BCAGS, under former International player Cyrille Damango, the team changed its name on April 4, 2022. The team represented the Central African Republic in the 2023 BAL qualification, and its roster featured national team players Max Kouguere and Steven-Emile Perriere, as well as Rwandan guard Kenny Gasana and center Kendall Gray. Sporting narrowly missed out on a place in the BAL, after losing the third place game to Stade Malien. Bangui () (or Bangî in Sango, formerly written Bangi in English) is the capital and largest city of the Central African Republic. 2023 BAL Qualification
The qualification for the 2023 BAL season, also known as Road to BAL 2023, was the 3rd edition of the qualifying tournaments for the Basketball Africa League. The tournaments were organised by FIBA Africa and are held from 10 October to 27 November 2022. The format was similar to the previous two seasons, with a group phase and an elite 16 being held. Kenny Gasana
Kenneth Gasana (born Kenneth Wilson; November 9, 1984) is a Rwandan professional basketball player who currently plays for Bangui Sporting Club of the Road to BAL. Born in the United States, he represents Rwanda internationally. Career Gasana played his final two years of college basketball for Boise State. Gasana started his professional career in 2007. In 2010, Gasana joined Moroccan club Chabab Rif Al Hoceima for one season which was followed by another season at Spaza Sports BC. In the 2014–15 season, he played in Egypt with Gezira. His third team in Morocco was Ittihad Tanger, which he joined in 2018. In 2019, Gasana signed with Rwanda-based REG BBC to play in the Rwandan National Basketball League. In October 2019, he joined the defending champions Patriots BBC. He went on to win the championship in 2019 and 2020 with Patriots. Kendall Lamar Gray (born May 5, 1992) is an American-born Rwandan basketball player who currently plays for the Bangui Sporting Club. He played college basketball for Delaware State University, being named the 2014–15 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Player of the Year, becoming the fourth selection in school history to earn the honor. Early life Gray was born in Merced, California but grew up in Dover, Delaware. He earned three varsity letters while playing at Polytech High School in Woodside, Delaware. Stade Malien is a Malian basketball team based in Bamako. It is part of the multi-sports club, which also has a football team and rugby team. Max Martial Kouguère (born 12 March 1987) is a Central African professional basketball player who last played for Bangui Sporting Club. He is a member of the Central African Republic national basketball team. Professional career Before signing with Olympique Antibes for the 2009–10 season, Kouguère played for fellow French League team BCM Gravelines. He rarely saw action, playing only 64 minutes spread out over 11 games during the season. Despite this, the Kouguère gained a cult following in France through his dunking ability and participation in several slam dunk contests in France.
