2023 BAL Qualification
The qualification for the 2023 BAL season, also known as Road to BAL 2023, was the 3rd edition of the qualifying tournaments for the Basketball Africa League. The tournaments were organised by FIBA Africa and are held from 10 October to 27 November 2022. The format was similar to the previous two seasons, with a group phase and an elite 16 being held. Team allocation On 21 September 2021, FIBA Africa announced the teams in the qualifying tournaments as well as the six countries that would qualify directly. * 1st, 2nd, 3rd, etc.: standings in the domestic league * BAL: Qualified as team that was directly qualified in the 2022 BAL season * QS: Teams from a country that qualified for the 2022 BAL season through the qualifying tournaments * WC: Wild card Withdrawing teams Nine teams were drawn in a group for the group phase, but withdrew prior to the start of the games. Road To BAL
The Road to BAL, also known as the BAL Qualifying Tournaments, are the qualifying tournaments of the Basketball Africa League (BAL). The organization of the qualifiers is in hands of FIBA Africa. The first qualifying rounds were held on 16 October 2019. The qualifiers are geographically divided into the West and East Division, with three teams qualifying out of each division. Semi-finals and finals are played to determine the winners of the qualifying tournaments. Format The national champions of each national federation (associated with FIBA Africa) can sign up for the BAL qualifiers. In the inaugural edition, a total of 31 teams from 31 countries participate in the qualifying tournaments to determine which six teams will play in the 2020 BAL regular season, along with six directly placed six teams. Cobra Sports Club, commonly known as Cobra Sport, are a South Sudanese basketball team based in Juba, South Sudan. The team was established in 2017 and plays in the Central Equatoria State Basketball Association (CESBA). Cobra has won three national championships. Stade Malien is a Malian basketball team based in Bamako. It is part of the multi-sports club, which also has a football team and rugby team. The Burundian Basketball Championship (in French: Championnat National du Burundi), for sponsorship reason the Viva Basketball League, is a semi-professional basketball league that is the highest level of the sport in Burundi. The league is organised by the Fédération de Basketball du Burundi (FEBABU). In 2022, the league signed a 4-year sponsorship contract with malt drink producer Viva; the winners of the league win a prize money of 10 million FBu (approximately $4,800). Benin Basketball Super League
The Benin Basketball Super League (french: Super Ligue de Basket-ball du Bénin), for sponsorships known as the YouZou Ligue Pro, is the highest level basketball league in Benin. The competition is organised annually by the Fédération Beninoise de Basket-ball. In 2020 the league became professional as the Benisese government under President Patrice Talon passed a law that required all sports clubs to be operated as companies. The move also allowed foreign players to compete in the league. Three years later, in May 2023, the league received a substantial subsidy from the Beninese government to further develop the sport in the country.
