Cobra Sport
Cobra Sports Club, commonly known as Cobra Sport, are a South Sudanese basketball team based in Juba, South Sudan. The team was established in 2017 and plays in the Central Equatoria State Basketball Association (CESBA). Cobra has won three national championships. Cobra played in the Basketball Africa League (BAL) during the 2022 season. History The sports club was founded in 2014 by Biardit Company Limited. The basketball team was established in 2017. In 2020, Cobra played in its first continental games when it participated in the qualifiers for the 2020 BAL season. Cobra played in Group F in Antananarivo and ended in third place, missing out on advancing to the next round. However, the club advanced with a wild card before losing all next three games in the Elite 16 stage. On 20 September 2021, Cobra signed John Jevish Omondi from Kenya as their new head coach. The Ulinzi Warriors are a basketball club based in Moi Air Base, Kenya. The club is affiliated with the Kenya Defence Forces and is often nicknamed ''Soldiers''. The Warriors are eight-time national champions of Kenya, trailing only KPA for holding the record of most championships. The Warriors are a regular member of the KBF Premier League, however, the team was folded in 2007 but returned in 2012. Nyang Luol "Tako" Wek III (born 9 March 1996) is a South Sudanese basketball player who last played for Bangui SC of the Basketball Africa League (BAL). Wek has been a member of the South Sudan national team, and played at FIBA AfroBasket 2021 with his country. Early life and high school career Wek was born in South Sudan but moved to the United States at age 9. He attended French Camp Academy in Mississippi, where he began playing basketball as a freshman. As a junior, Wek averaged 19 points per game and had consecutive 40-point games. He was expelled during his senior season. Wek moved to Memphis, Tennessee and earned a football scholarship to Lane College. He dropped out of Lane after a season, due to feeling that football was not right for him. The 2023 BAL season, also known as BAL Season 3, is the third season of the Basketball Africa League (BAL). The season began on 11 March 2023 and will end on 27 May 2023, with the playoffs and finals being played in the BK Arena in Kigali, which hosts the finals for a third season in a row. The regular season is played in Dakar, Senegal (Sahara Conference) and Cairo, Egypt (Nile Conference) for a second year in a row. The qualification games for the season, the Road to BAL, began on 11 October 2022. The winners of the 2023 BAL season will automatically qualify for the 2023 FIBA Intercontinental Cup Singapore. 2021 BAL Season
The 2021 BAL season, also known as BAL Season 1, was the inaugural season of the Basketball Africa League (BAL). Established as a joint effort between the National Basketball Association (NBA) and FIBA, the BAL is the highest tier continental league of Africa, replacing the FIBA Africa Basketball League. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic in Africa, COVID-19 pandemic, the BAL held its inaugural season one year later as planned, with the season beginning in 2021. Road To BAL
The Road to BAL, also known as the BAL Qualifying Tournaments, are the qualifying tournaments of the Basketball Africa League (BAL). The organization of the qualifiers is in hands of FIBA Africa. The first qualifying rounds were held on 16 October 2019. The qualifiers are geographically divided into the West and East Division, with three teams qualifying out of each division. Semi-finals and finals are played to determine the winners of the qualifying tournaments. Format The national champions of each national federation (associated with FIBA Africa) can sign up for the BAL qualifiers.
