John Glenn High School opened in 1965. In 1997, Bangor Junior High School was renamed to Middle School in keeping with the space theme of the school district.

Bangor Charter Township is a charter township in Bay County in the U.S. state of Michigan. The township's population was 14,641 as of the 2010 Census and is included in the Bay City Metropolitan Statistical Area. Bay County is located in the U.S. state of Michigan. As of the 2020 Census, the population was 103,856. The county seat is Bay City. Bay County comprises the Bay City, MI Metropolitan Statistical Area and is included in the Saginaw-Midland-Bay City Combined Statistical Area in the Mid/Central Michigan region. History 19th century Bay County was created in 1857 from portions of Midland County, Saginaw County, and Arenac County. Its name references that it "surrounds Saginaw Bay." Sharon Christa McAuliffe ( Corrigan; September 2, 1948 – January 28, 1986) was an American teacher and astronaut from Concord, New Hampshire, who was killed on the Space Shuttle ''Challenger'' on mission STS-51-L where she was serving as a payload specialist. She received her bachelor's degree in education and history from Framingham State College in 1970 and her master's degree in education, supervision and administration from Bowie State University in 1978. She took a teaching position as a social studies teacher at Concord High School in New Hampshire in 1983. In 1985, McAuliffe was selected from more than 11,000 applicants to the NASA Teacher in Space Project and was scheduled to become the first teacher to fly in space. The Saginaw Valley High School Association (commonly referred to as the Saginaw Valley League) is a high school sports league formed in 1904 within the Michigan High School Athletic Association (MHSAA), located in the Bay, Genesee, Isabella, Lapeer, Midland, and Saginaw counties in Michigan area. History SVL was formed in the fall of 1904 with five teams: Bay City Eastern (Bay City Central), Bay City Western (Bay City Handy), Saginaw Eastern (Saginaw High), Arthur Hill, and Flint High (Flint Central). In August 2012, the final four teams of the Big Nine Conference, Carman-Ainsworth, Davison, Flint Powers Catholic and Flushing, joined the league in its South Division.
