Saginaw Valley League
The Saginaw Valley High School Association (commonly referred to as the Saginaw Valley League) is a high school sports league formed in 1904 within the Michigan High School Athletic Association (MHSAA), located in the Bay, Genesee, Isabella, Lapeer, Midland, and Saginaw counties in Michigan area. History SVL was formed in the fall of 1904 with five teams: Bay City Eastern (Bay City Central), Bay City Western (Bay City Handy), Saginaw Eastern (Saginaw High), Arthur Hill, and Flint High (Flint Central). In August 2012, the final four teams of the Big Nine Conference, Carman-Ainsworth, Davison, Flint Powers Catholic and Flushing, joined the league in its South Division. With the Flint Metro League losing Lapeer East and Lapeer West, Flushing and Carman-Ainsworth applied to join that league with Flushing's membership approved starting in the 2014-15 year. The Michigan High School Athletic Association (MHSAA) is a service organization for high school sports in Michigan and is headquartered in East Lansing. It is a member of the National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS). Unlike many other NFHS member organizations, *The MHSAA does not charge membership fees for schools; it derives its income from ticket sales at tournament level games and a handful of corporate sponsorships. *It is independent of and not officially recognized by any governmental body, local or statewide. *Membership is voluntary; no Michigan high school is compelled by law to be an MHSAA member. Midland, Michigan
Midland is a city in and the county seat of Midland County, Michigan. The city's population was 42,547 as of the 2020 census. It is the principal city of the Midland Micropolitan Statistical Area, part of the larger Saginaw-Midland-Bay City Combined Statistical Area. Lapeer High School
Lapeer High School is a coeducational public high school located in Lapeer, Michigan. It was established in 2014 following a merger of two high schools. LHS has the largest enrollment of any school in Central Michigan or The Thumb. History Lapeer High School existed as one school until the 1975–1976 school year, when growing enrollments caused the need for an additional high school building. As a result, Lapeer High School was split into two: Lapeer West High School and Lapeer East High School In March 2013, the Lapeer School Board voted to consolidate the two high schools in Lapeer. Kensington Lakes Activities Association
The Kensington Lakes Activities Association (KLAA) is an athletic conference for high schools in Michigan. It was formed in the 2008-2009 school year as a result of the merger of the Kensington Valley Conference and the Western Lakes Activities Association, plus two other schools joining from the Oakland Activities Association and the newly built South Lyon East. The league started in 2008 with 23 teams. Howell Parker was to join the KLAA when the conference was first created, but closed after only one year of operation and later re-opened as a middle school. Grand Blanc joined in 2009 to give the league 24 teams. Grand Blanc, Michigan
Grand Blanc is a city in Genesee County in the U.S. state of Michigan and a suburb of Flint. The population was 7,784 as of the 2020 US Census. History The unincorporated village of Grand Blanc, or Grumlaw, was a former Indian campground first settled by Jacob Stevens in spring 1822. Several years later, settlers improved the Indian trail to Saginaw; they laid out and staked it in 1829 as Saginaw Road. Grand Blanc Township was formed in 1833 with area that would become the city. The township center began to boom in 1864 with the arrival of the railroad (now known as the CSX Saginaw Subdivision). Big North Conference (Michigan)
The Big North Conference (BNC) is a high school conference based in northern Michigan, and is affiliated with the Michigan High School Athletic Association (MHSAA). Created in 1997 after the split of Traverse City High School into Central and West High School. It combined the eight largest schools in Northern Michigan. In 2004, due to decreasing enrollment Cheboygan and Sault Area left the conference.
