Bana (singer)
Adriano Gonçalves (5 March 1932 – 13 July 2013), known by his stage name Bana and called the " King of Morna", was a Cape Verdean singer and performer of the morna style, the plaintive, melodic lament which is a staple musical style of the country. Biography He was born in Mindelo on 5 March 1932, some sources said he was born on 11 March. In his childhood years, he was surrounded by music with local singers. At age four, he appeared with local singers. Bana, who was over seven feet tall, began his musical career during Portuguese colonial rule, when he worked as a handyman and bodyguard for the legendary Cabo Verdean composer and performer, B. Leza. In the 1950s, the singer, uncle of Cesária Évora taught Bana and many other artists the art of morna songs. In 1958, BeLeza was presented at a round with the Tuna Académica da Coimbra which took place in São Vicente Island. Celina Pereira
Celina Pereira (10 September 1940 - 17 December 2020) was a Cape Verdean singer and an educator. Career She was a primary school teacher in Viseu. She published her first single in 1979 ''Bobista'' (now spelt as ''Bubista'' in Boa Vista Creole) by the label Discos Monte Cara by Bana (singer), Bana. In 1986, she recorded her first album ''Força di Cretcheu'' (''Força do Meu Amor'') and was arranged by the music director Paulino Vieira and includes stories of nursery rhymes, plays and work. In 1990, she released the LP ''Estória, Estória... No Arquipélago das Maravilhas'' which was also done by Paulino Vieira. She started worked to tell stories in the United States in 1991. She published the album ''Nós Tradição'' (''Our Tradition'') along with the French publisher Melódie in 1993. She took part in the compilation ''Pensa nisto!...''. Djô d'Eloy born Adolfo de Jon Xalino (May 21, 1953, June 4, 2005) was a Cape Verdean singer, composer and guitarist. He belonged to the Xalino family of singers. His greatest singles included " Arriola" and " Grandeza", both appeared in the album '' Nos Festa'' in 1981. he was of the Xalino family. Val Xalino
Val Xalino (born August 19, 1953) is a Capeverdean singer and producer who currently resides in Gothenburg, Sweden. He is the father of the Cape Verdean singer and producer Robert Xalino. Biography Val Xalino was born in Mindelo on the island of São Vicente to his mother Maria who was a cook and his father Armando de Jon who was a great musician from the island during the 1950s and the 1960s. He made guitars along with his brothers Eduardo de Jon and Eddy Moreno. Eddy Moreno
Eddy Moreno born Adolfo de Jon Xalino (1915–1983) was a famous Cape Verdean singer. He belonged to the Xalino family of singers. His greatest singles included " Arriola" and " Grandeza", both appeared in the album '' Nos Festa'' in 1981. Moreno was the first to record in the Sanjon (Saint John) music style. Biography Lobo was born in Mindelo on the island of São Vicente, he first appeared in music and theater. Dany Silva is a Cape Verdean singer, musician, composer and producer. Biography Dany Silva was born in the then colonial capital of Praia, he lives in Portugal since 1961. He started playing the violin in his father's island Boa Vista, Cape Verde. After his immigration to Portugal, he studied at Escola de Regentes Agrícolas de Santarém and later Engenheiro Técnico Agrário He was one of the singers who founded the band Os Charruos. Seven years later, he was part of the group Quinteto Académico+2 next to Mike Sergeant. Later, he took part with Four Kings. Leonel Almeida
Leonel Almeida (born May 17, 1952)) is a Cape Verdean singer. He began his career at the age of 17 and was a member of the group Birds with guitarist and producer Paulino Vieira. He has recorded versions of songs by other groups. Almeida was drafted into the Portuguese army at the age of 20. This experience was a turning point of his life; he became politically aware and began to sing intervention songs.
