Helsinki–Tallinn Tunnel
The Helsinki-to-Tallinn Tunnel is a proposed undersea tunnel that would span the Gulf of Finland and connect the Finnish and Estonian capitals by train. The ''Star'' class is a class of five Ro-pax ferries built by Fincantieri, Italy at their Castellammare di Stabia and Ancona shipyards for Finnlines. GTS ''Finnjet'' was a cruiseferry, built in 1977 by Wärtsilä Helsinki Shipyard, Finland for Finnlines traffic between Finland and Germany. At the time of her delivery, ''Finnjet'' was the fastest, longest and largest car ferry in the world, and the only one powered by gas turbines. At the point of her scrapping in 2008, she remained the fastest conventional ferry in the world, with a recorded top speed of . ''Finnjet'' had remained out of service since 2005, laid up in Baton Rouge, Freeport and Genoa. Although she was purchased by Club Cruise in November 2007 and renamed MS ''Da Vinci'' in January 2008 for rebuilding into a cruise ship, the ship was sold for scrap in May 2008. Eckerö Linjen
Eckerö Linjen is a Finnish shipping company operating a ferry between Berghamn harbour in Eckerö in the Åland Islands and Grisslehamn in Sweden. The company is owned by the Åland based Rederiaktiebolaget Eckerö. Eckerö Linjen should not be confused with its similarly named sister company Eckerö Line, which operates ferry services between Helsinki in Finland and Tallinn in Estonia. History Eckerö Linjen began trafficking between Eckerö in Åland and Grisslehamn in Sweden in 1961. Berghamn is the westernmost ferry harbour of the autonomous Finnish territory Åland, in the Archipelago Sea within the Baltic sea. Berghamn is situated on the island of Eckerö. Over the road, the harbour is about 35 km away from Åland's capital Mariehamn. From this harbour, the ship company Eckerö Linjen has an international ferry link with Grisslehamn in Sweden. The ferry leaves several times a day.
