Balally Luas Stop
Balally ( ga, Baile Amhlaoibh) is a stop on the Luas light-rail tram system in Dún Laoghaire - Rathdown, south of Dublin, Ireland. It opened in 2004 as a stop on the Green Line and serves Dundrum Town Centre as well as the suburbs of Balally and Goatstown. The stop is located at the junction at the side of Overend Avenue. Location and access Balally is located in an open-air station box. On either side, the tracks run in cut and cover tunnels. To the northwest, they run under the Rockfield Central apartment block and Overend Avenue. To the southeast, the tracks run under an internal street and an office block. The northbound platform has a staircase and a lift which lead directly to the street. The southbound platform has a flight of steps and a ramp which lead to a mall with shops under the Rockfield development. At street level, the stop is signposted with a solar-powered totem. Green Line (Luas)
The Green Line () is one of the two lines of Dublin's Luas light rail system. The Green Line was formerly entirely in the south side of Dublin city. It mostly follows the route of the old Harcourt Street railway line, which was reserved for possible re-use when it closed in 1958. The Green Line allows for passenger transfers at O’ Connell GPO and Marlborough to Luas Red Line services and also allows commuters to use Broombridge as an interchange station to reach outer suburbs such as Castleknock and Ongar. Luas
Luas (pronounced ; Irish for "speed") is a tram/ light rail system in Dublin, Ireland. There are two main lines: the Green Line, which began operating on 30 June 2004, and the Red Line which opened on 26 September 2004. Since then, both lines have been extended and split into different branches further out of the city. The two lines, as of 2017, now intersect and connect within Dublin city centre. Balally (), County Dublin, Ireland, is a townland and residential area between Dundrum village and the Sandyford Industrial Estate in Sandyford. Balally Parish itself reaches from Ardglas to the M50 motorway. The area is served by two primary schools (St. Olaf's National School and Queen of Angels) and two secondary schools (St. Tiernan's and Wesley College). Goatstown () is a small Southside suburb of Dublin, Ireland. To the west is Dundrum, to the east is Blackrock, to the south is Sandyford, and to the north Ranelagh. Station Box
A station box is a term in the construction industry: It describes a box-like underground structure for a transportation system, for example a metro or tube station. Station boxes are built in two methods – "top-down" or "bottom-up". In the "bottom-up" method, a chamber as large as the station structure is dug into the ground into which the station is built. Poured concrete or pre-cast panels are then used to form the various levels and internal structures, similar to the construction of the underground basements of high rise buildings.
