BSS (band)
BSS (, also known as BooSeokSoon or Seventeen BSS) is the first sub-unit of South Korean boy band Seventeen. Formed in 2018, the group is composed of DK, Hoshi, and Seungkwan. They are the recipient of a Grand Prize (Daesang) which they won at the 2023 Asia Artist Awards. Name BSS is an acronym that stands for BooSeokSoon, a portmanteau composed of a syllable from each of the band members' names: "Boo" from Boo Seung-kwan, "Seok" from Lee Seokmin (DK), and "Soon" from Kwon Soonyoung ( Hoshi). The name was coined by fans during the members' training period, prior to their official debut as Seventeen. Career 2018: Formation and debut On February 2, 2018, Seventeen members DK, Hoshi, and Seungkwan performed an unreleased song, "Just Do It", at a fan meeting as a special one-time skit. ''Music Bank'' (; RR: ''Myujikbaengkeu'') is a South Korean music program which airs every Friday at 17:15 KST on KBS2. the show is also broadcast in more than a hundred countries through KBS World. Episodes are filmed at the KBS New Wing Open Hall in Yeouido-dong, Yeongdeungpo-gu. The show also organizes the global live concert ''Music Bank World Tour''. History Prior to ''Music Bank'', ''Top 10 Songs'' (가요톱10) debuted in 1981 airing live at 6:30 (KST) on Fridays and aired until 1998. South Korea Songs is a music record chart in South Korea, compiled by ''Billboard'' since May 2022. The chart is updated every Tuesday on ''Billboard''s website. It is part of ''Billboard''s Hits of the World chart collection, ranking the top 25 songs weekly in more than 40 countries around the globe. The first number-one song on the chart was "Still Life" by Big Bang on the issue dated May 7, 2022. The chart's current number-one song is "Ditto" by NewJeans, on the week ending on January 7th, 2023. Methodology The chart tracks songs' performance from Friday to Thursday. Circle Digital Chart
The Circle Digital Chart, previously known as the Gaon Digital Chart, is the music industry standard record chart ranking the 200 most popular singles in South Korea. It provides rankings on a weekly, monthly, and yearly basis, which is based on an aggregate of streaming, downloads and background music from major South Korean music platforms. It is a part of the Circle Chart, previously known as the Gaon Chart. History The Gaon Digital Chart was launched as a part of the Gaon Chart in February 2010, by Korea Music Content Association and South Korea's Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism. The Oricon Singles Chart is the Japanese music industry-standard singles popularity chart issued daily, weekly, monthly and yearly by Oricon. Chart rankings are based on physical singles' sales. Until 2017, Oricon did not track download sales. In Japan, physical sales decreased sharply in the 2000s, while download sales hit three to four times the amount of single sales. In November 2017, Oricon introduced its first digital songs chart, separate from its main physical singles chart. In November 2018, Oricon launched a streaming chart, and introduced a combined singles chart that utilizes physical single sales, downloads, and streams. The GfK Entertainment charts are the official music charts in Germany and are gathered and published by GfK Entertainment (formerly Media Control and Media Control GfK International), a subsidiary of GfK, on behalf of Bundesverband Musikindustrie. GfK Entertainment is the provider of weekly Top 100 single and album charts, as well as various other chart formats for genres like compilations, jazz, classical music, schlager, hip hop, dance, comedy, and music videos. Ultratop is an organization which generates and publishes the official record charts in Belgium. Ultratop is a non-profit organization, created on the initiative of the Belgian Entertainment Association (BEA), the Belgian member organization of the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry.
