B.G. Deshmukh
Bhalchandra Gopal Deshmukh, also known as B.G. Deshmukh, IAS (1929-2011) was an Indian civil servant from the 1951 batch of the Indian Administrative Service. During his career he served with distinction in various capacities in Maharashtra and Gujarat. He was secretary to the then chief minister of Maharashtra, Vasantrao Naik, and Commissioner of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation, Bombay. He went on to serve as Additional Secretary, Ministry of Home Affairs, and Union Labour Secretary in the Government of India. In 1985, he was appointed as Chief Secretary to the Government of Maharashtra. B. G. Deshmukh was appointed as the 17th Cabinet Secretary of the Government of India in 1986, taking over from his batchmate P. K. Kaul, IAS (1951 UP). The Indian Administrative Service (IAS) is the administrative arm of the All India Services of Government of India. Considered the premier civil service of India, the IAS is one of the three arms of the All India Services along with the Indian Police Service and the Indian Forest Service. Vasantrao Phulsing Naik (1 July 1913 – 18 August 1979) was an Indian politician who served as Chief Minister of Maharashtra from 1963 until 1975. To this date, he remains as the longest-serving Chief Minister of Maharashtra. Also, he had a credit to return to power after completion of full five years.
