Aztecas UDLAP is the name of the sports teams that represent the Universidad de las Américas Puebla (UDLAP). American football History In 1947 the team began its life as the American football squad of Mexico City College with the nickname ''los Aztecas''. That same year the squad was admitted into the most important American football conference in Mexico, ''Liga Mayor''. In this conference the team plays against teams with long traditions such as the Pumas Dorados de la UNAM, Águilas Blancas of the National Polytechnic Institute (IPN), Team Education, YMCA and the Military College. Luis Dias, a brilliant player from UCLA, was named the first coach of the first Aztecas. Next to him, two ex-players from the Rose Bowl were added to the staff: Mary Schinitzer as a linemen coach and Len McVicar as backfield coach. Organización Nacional Estudiantil De Fútbol Americano
The National Student Organization of American Football ( or ''ONEFA'') is the major college football league in Mexico. American football has been played in Mexico since the early 1920s in different colleges and universities, mainly in Mexico City. In 1928 the first professional championship was played, organized by Jorge Braniff. From the 1920s to the 1970s more universities and colleges joined the championship, and four categories, called ''fuerzas'' were created. The First ''Fuerza'' became the National League in 1970, and in 1978 it was reorganized under the name ONEFA. In 2010 a breakaway league, CONADEIP, was formed by the Monterrey Institute of Technology and Higher Education system, UDLAP and additional private universities. In 2017, the leagues started staging regular season matches and a National Championship. Aztecs
The Aztecs () were a Mesoamerican culture that flourished in central Mexico in the post-classic period from 1300 to 1521. The Auténticos Tigres UANL (English: ''UANL Authentic Tigers'') team represents the Autonomous University of Nuevo León (UANL) in college football. The Auténticos Tigres compete in the Jacinto Licea Conference, ONEFA's top division.
