Avedørelejren
Avedørelejren is a former military base in Avedøre, Hvidovre Municipality, some 10 km west of Copenhagen, Denmark. It has now been converted into a mixed-use development. It is home to Filmbyen and the Circus Museum. History The military camp was built between 1911 and 1913 to a design by Helge Boysen-Møller. It was originally only intended for use during the summer season. The installation has over the years been home to a wide range of military units. It closed in 1995. The buildings were then sold to Hvidovre Municipality (80%) and the film company Zentropa. Description The street Filmbyen bisects the area. The buildings in the southern part of the area are generally built in red brick. This area is home to the oldest surviving buildings. They were designed by the architect Viggo Møller with inspiration from the Bedre Byggeskik movement. They have been combined with new housing and a day care. Avedøre
Avedøre is a south-western suburb of Copenhagen located in Hvidovre Municipality. Description The city is mostly made up of concrete blocks and row-housing, but some people residing in Avedøre live in detached single-family houses with gardens. One major high-rise block called "Store Hus" (lit. English: Grand House) dominates the suburb's skyline. The city has a relatively high rate of crime and many inhabitants are unemployed . Approximately 16,000 persons live in Avedøre, and approx. 60% of the inhabitants is either immigrant or born by immigrants, mainly from Iraq, Palestine, Lebanon, Spain and Turkey. Hvidovre Municipality
Hvidovre Kommune is a municipality (Danish, '' kommune'') in Region Hovedstaden near Copenhagen on the island of Zealand (Sjælland) in eastern Denmark. The municipality covers an area of 22 km2, and has a total population of 53,416 (1 January 2019). Its mayor is Anders Wolf Andresen, a member of the Green Left (''Socialistisk Folkeparti'') political party. The main town and the site of its municipal council is the town of Hvidovre. Mixed-use is a kind of urban development, urban design, urban planning and/or a zoning type that blends multiple uses, such as residential, commercial, cultural, institutional, or entertainment, into one space, where those functions are to some degree physically and functionally integrated, and that provides pedestrian connections. Filmbyen
Filmbyen (English: Film City) is a film studio complex located in Hvidovre just outside Copenhagen, Denmark. Filmbyen is a former military base. It houses many film-related companies. Many films and TV-series have been shot there. It was founded by Lars von Trier and Peter Aalbæk Jensen's company Zentropa in 1997 and is still owned and run by Zentropa. The story of Filmbyen, its people and companies is told in Thomas Vilhelm's book ''Filmbyen'' (Ekstra Bladets Forlag, 2007), and in the documentary ''Filmbyen, la nouvelle Mecque du cinéma?'' A circus is a company of performers who put on diverse entertainment shows that may include clowns, acrobats, trained animals, trapeze acts, musicians, dancers, hoopers, tightrope walkers, jugglers, magicians, ventriloquists, and unicyclists as well as other object manipulation and stunt-oriented artists. The term ''circus'' also describes the performance which has followed various formats through its 250-year modern history. Although not the inventor of the medium, Philip Astley is credited as the father of the modern circus. In 1768, Astley, a skilled equestrian, began performing exhibitions of trick horse riding in an open field called Ha'Penny Hatch on the south side of the Thames River, England.
