Filmbyen
Filmbyen (English: Film City) is a film studio complex located in Hvidovre just outside Copenhagen, Denmark. Filmbyen is a former military base. It houses many film-related companies. Many films and TV-series have been shot there. It was founded by Lars von Trier and Peter Aalbæk Jensen's company Zentropa in 1997 and is still owned and run by Zentropa. The story of Filmbyen, its people and companies is told in Thomas Vilhelm's book ''Filmbyen'' (Ekstra Bladets Forlag, 2007), and in the documentary ''Filmbyen, la nouvelle Mecque du cinéma?'' (''Filmbyen, the new Mecca of cinema?'') directed by Pablo Tréhin-Marçot (France, 2007). Zentropa
Zentropa, or Zentropa Entertainments, is a Danish film company started in 1992 by director Lars von Trier and producer Peter Aalbæk Jensen. Zentropa is named after the train company Zentropa in the film ''Europa'' (1991), which started the collaboration between von Trier and Jensen. History It has produced over 70 feature films and has become the largest film production company in Scandinavia. It owns a number of subsidiary companies in Europe. Zentropa is also responsible for creating a large studio complex called ''Filmbyen'' (Film City), where both Zentropa and many other film-related companies are located. Peter Aalbæk Jensen
Peter Aalbæk Jensen (born 8 April 1956 in Osted) is a Danish film producer who in 1992 with director Lars von Trier founded the Danish film company Zentropa and later its huge studio complex Filmbyen. His father was writer Erik Aalbæk Jensen. Zentropa is known for the Dogme95-manifesto and such projects as ''Dogville'' (2003) starring Nicole Kidman, ''Dancer in the Dark'' (2000) starring Björk, ''The Five Obstructions'', and the Oscar-nominated '' After the Wedding'' (2006). Peter Aalbæk Jensen has executive-produced over 70 theatrical feature films and many television productions, has founded a long list of subsidiary companies and is widely regarded as the most important Danish film producer since the 1990s. Hvidovre
Hvidovre is the main town in Hvidovre Municipality, Denmark. The town, a suburb of Copenhagen, is about 10 km southwest of the capital's center. It is the 2nd biggest suburb of Copenhagen, only beaten by Frederiksberg. History Hvidovre has been inhabited since prehistoric times. In 1929, a 3,500-year-old sword from the Bronze Age was excavated in Hvidovre. A farm, Ovre (Aworthe), was located in the area in about 1170 when Esbern Snare gave it to Sorø Abbey that later passed it on to Bishop Absalon. A church was built during the Romanesque period. The name Hvidovre, meaning White Ovre, refers to the colour of the church, which was built in white chalk, as opposed to the one in Rødovre, Red Ovre, which was built in red brick.
