Attenborough Arts Centre
The Attenborough Arts Centre is an arts centre on Lancaster Road, Leicester, United Kingdom. It is the University of Leicester arts centre but also serves Leicester as a whole. The centre's access and inclusive work has been recognised, through multiple awards and grants from Arts Council England, BBC Children in Need, LeicesterShire Promotions, Art Fund and Paul Hamlyn Foundation. History The centre is inspired by the work of filmmaker, actor and patron of the arts Richard Attenborough. It was opened in 1997 by Diana, Princess of Wales, after six years of funding efforts from Attenborough, just three months before her death. With an increase in attendances and a greater demand for a gallery space in Leicester, in 2012 plans were announced for a new 300 square meters of exhibition space to be built on the east side of the building. Attenborough Centre For The Creative Arts
The Attenborough Centre for the Creative Arts (ACCA), previously the Gardner Arts Centre, is an arts centre, part of the University of Sussex at Falmer, Brighton and Hove, UK. Its public programme includes performance, dance, live art, film, music, discussion and debate. The building is mid-century modern Grade II* listed, designed by Basil Spence. The venue operated as the Gardner Arts Centre from 1969 to 2007, then closed, was refurbished and reopened in 2016 as the Attenborough Centre for the Creative Arts. Tony Heaton
Anthony James Heaton OBE (born 11 October 1954) is a British sculptor, disability rights activist and arts administrator, who was appointed an OBE in 2013 for services to the arts and the disability arts movement. He was CEO of the arts charity Shape until March 2017. In 2012, he won the competition to produce an installation celebrating Channel 4's involvement in the London 2012 Paralympic Games. This produced his 'Monument for the Unintended Performer'. Early years Heaton was born in Preston, Lancashire, in 1954, the son of a coppersmith. When, at the age of 16, a motor bike accident left him with a spinal injury, he switched from a comprehensive school to a local arts college at Southport. Michael Forbes
Michael Patrick Forbes (born July 16, 1952) is an American former politician from the state of New York. Forbes represented a Long Island district in the United States House of Representatives from 1995 to 2001, first as a Republican (until 1999) and then as a Democrat. He was an influential member of the House Appropriations Committee throughout his tenure on Capitol Hill. Forbes left Congress after being defeated in the 2000 Democratic primary election. Justin Edgar (born 18 August 1971) is a British film director, screenwriter and Film producer, producer. Early life Born in Handsworth, West Midlands, Handsworth, Birmingham, Edgar left school with no qualifications because he regularly played truant to watch movies at the nearby Odeon. Lucy Jones (born 1955) is a British painter and printmaker. She was born with cerebral palsy. Jones is from London and lives in Ludlow, Shropshire. Career Jones was educated at the King Alfred School, London and studied at the Byam Shaw School of Art between 1975 and 1977. From 1976 to 1979 Jones studied at the Camberwell School of Art and then at the Royal College of Arts from 1979 until 1982.
