Athletics At The 2016 Summer Olympics – Men's Javelin Throw
The men's javelin throw competition at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The event was held at the Olympic Stadium between August 17–20. Summary Defending champion, Keshorn Walcott started the final with a respectable 83.45 m. The second thrower was Johannes Vetter who topped it with an 85.32 m. The eighth thrower in the round was reigning World Champion Julius Yego, who tossed it , landing on his hands to avoid a face plant on the runway. He moved into the gold medal position. The next competitor was the number one thrower in 2016, Thomas Röhler who answered with an 87.40 m to move into silver position. On his second attempt, Walcott threw it 85.38 to move into bronze position by just 6 cm, still more than 3 metres short of the mark he threw in the qualifying round. Braian Toledo
Braian Ezequiel Toledo (8 September 1993 – 26 February 2020) was an Argentine javelin thrower who improved the World Youth Best in boys' javelin throw by more than six metres. He won the inaugural javelin title at the 2010 Youth Olympics in Singapore and also won gold at the 2010 South American Youth Championships and 2009 Pan American Junior Championships. In 2011 Braian protagonized a publicity spot for the campaign of Cristina Fernández de Kirchner in the presidential elections. In 2012 he participated, along with other Olympic athletes, in a campaign of Grandmothers of the Plaza de Mayo to recover the grandchildren who were robbed during the National Reorganization Process. Since November 2016 he had Kari Ihalainen as coach and in April 2017 he moved to Kuortane, Finland, with the aim of improving his performance in view of the 2020 Olympic Games. Julian Weber (born 29 August 1994) is a German track and field athlete who competes in the javelin throw. He won the 2013 European Athletics Junior Championships, European Junior Championship in 2013. Biography Weber was born in Mainz on 29 August 1994. He showed early promise as a thrower, but dropped athletics as a 12-year-old to concentrate on handball, the sport of his elder brother Patrick. He returned to the javelin four years later, immediately qualifying for the 2011 German youth championships; coached by Stephan Kallenberg, Weber developed rapidly as a thrower, but quit handball only after injuring himself in a game in 2012. Jakub Vadlejch (; born 10 October 1990) is a Czech track and field athlete who competes in the javelin throw. He is a three-time Olympian for the Czech Republic, having competed in 2012, 2016 and 2020, winning a silver medal in 2020. Vítězslav Veselý () (born 27 February 1983) is a Czech javelin thrower. He won two bronze medals at the Olympic games, in 2012 and 2020. Career He finished ninth at the 2002 World Junior Championships. He threw a personal best throw of 81.20 metres during the qualifying round at the 2008 Olympic Games and finished twelfth in the final. He was less successful at his first World Championships in Athletics the following year, failing to make the final with a throw of 75.76 m. Antti Hermanni Ruuskanen (born 21 February 1984) is a retired Finnish track and field athlete who competes in the javelin throw. He is a European Champion, having won gold in 2014. His personal best is 88.98 m, which he set in 2015. Career He won the bronze medal at the 2003 European Junior Championships and the silver medal at the 2005 European U23 Championships. He was sixth at the 2009 World Championships in Berlin.
