Armenian Chess Championship
This is a list of all the winners of the Armenian Chess Championship. The first championship was played in 1934, when Armenia was a part of the Transcaucasian SFSR. Championships were held sporadically in the Armenian SSR until 1945, when they became contested every year; this has continued today in independent Armenia. The tournament has usually been held as a round robin of the country's top players. Manuel Sureni Petrosyan ( hy, Մանուէլ Սուրենի Պետրոսյան; born May 6, 1998) is an Armenian chess player who holds the title of Grandmaster. He was the winner of 2022 Armenian Chess Championship. He won the Under-18 World Youth Chess Championship in 2016 and finished second in the World Junior Chess Championship of 2017. Chess In Armenia
Chess has been played in Armenia since the early Middle Ages; however, it was institutionalized during the early Soviet Armenia, Soviet period. Highly popular in Armenia today, chess gained widespread recognition during the 1960s, when Soviet Armenian grandmaster Tigran Petrosian became the World Chess Champion. A country of about three million people, Armenia is considered one of the strongest chess nations today, and a chess superpower. Among countries, Armenia has one of the most chess Grandmaster (chess), grandmasters per capita. Armenian Chess Federation
The Chess Federation of Armenia ( hy, Հայաստանի շախմատի ֆեդերացիա), also known as the Armenian Chess Federation, is the governing chess organization in Armenia and is affiliated to FIDE. The body was founded in 1927. Responsible for organizing individual and club championships for men and women and the various important international tournaments in Armenia, it also forms the Armenian national men's and women's teams. The Federation is a member of the European Chess Union. History Founded in 1927 as a chess section, in 1959 it was transformed into a federation. In 1958, the national team of Armenia took part in the USSR Chess Championship. The federation organizes men and women tournaments every year in the Armenian Chess Championship. In 2022, she won the Armenian women's championship and qualified for the national team. She then achieved a perfect score in the World Youth Championship for girls under 18. In December 2022, Mkrtchyan won the international U20 tournament held in Mansiysk, Russia. In March 2023, Mkrtchyan competed in the European Women Chess Championship. Maria Kursova (russian: Мария Курсова, hy, Մարիա Կուրսովա; born 3 January 1986) is a Russian-Armenian chess player. She was awarded the title of Woman Grandmaster by FIDE in 2007. Kursova was world girls champion and European girls champion in her age category. Career Born in Severodvinsk, Kursova won the World Youth Chess Championships in the Girls U10 category in 1996. She also won three medals at the European Youth Chess Championships: in 1998 she took the bronze medal in the Girls U12 section, three years later Kursova won the Girls U16 title, and in 2003 she tied with Natalia Pogonina for first place, placing second on countback, in the Girls U18 event.
