Armenian Chess Federation
The Chess Federation of Armenia ( hy, Հայաստանի շախմատի ֆեդերացիա), also known as the Armenian Chess Federation, is the governing chess organization in Armenia and is affiliated to FIDE. The body was founded in 1927. Responsible for organizing individual and club championships for men and women and the various important international tournaments in Armenia, it also forms the Armenian national men's and women's teams. The Federation is a member of the European Chess Union. History Founded in 1927 as a chess section, in 1959 it was transformed into a federation. In 1958, the national team of Armenia took part in the USSR Chess Championship. The federation organizes men and women tournaments every year in the Armenian Chess Championship. The first championship was held in 1934 and the first champion of Armenia was Genrikh Kasparyan, who went on to win the championships a total of 10 times. Tigran Petrosian Chess House
Tigran Petrosian Chess House ( hy, Տիգրան Պետրոսյանի անվան Շախմատի Տուն), officially the Central House of Chess-player named after Tigran Petrosian ( hy, Տիգրան Պետրոսյանի անվան Շախմատիստի Կենտրոնական Տուն), is the centre of the sport of chess in Yerevan, Armenia. It was opened in 1970. In 1984, it was renamed after the former world chess champion Tigran Petrosian. The architect of the triangular-shaped building was Zhanna Meshcheryakova. Tigran Petrosian laid the first stone in the foundation of the building. Currently, the director of the centre is Hrachik Tavadyan. The chess house is located on Khanjyan street, within the Circular Park of the Kentron district. It is home to the Yerevan chess school operating since 1971. Artashes Minasian
Artashes Minasian (sometimes transliterated as Minasyan; hy, Արտաշես Մինասյան; born 21 January 1967) is an Armenian chess grandmaster. He won the USSR Chess Championship in 1991 and is a six-time Armenian Chess Champion. Chess career He participated in eight Chess Olympiads with a record of +23 −12 =28. Robert Hovhannisyan
Robert Hovhannisyan ( hy, Ռոբերտ Հովհաննիսյան; born 23 March 1991) is an Armenian chess player. He was awarded the title Grandmaster by FIDE in 2010. In January 2011, Hovhannisyan won the 71st Armenian Chess Championship. In July he was a member of the gold-medal winning Armenian team at the World Team Chess Championship in Ningbo. The following month, Hovhannisyan tied for first place with Dariusz Świercz in the World Junior Chess Championship in Chennai, placing second on tiebreak. In November, he played again on the Armenian team in the European Team Chess Championship, in which his team finished fourth. Arsen Yegiazarian
Arsen Yegiazarian ( hy, Արսեն Եղիազարյան; 18 June 1970 – 20 April 2020) was an Armenian chess player who received the FIDE titles of Grandmaster (GM) in 2000 and FIDE Senior Trainer (FST) in 2011. Career Yegiazarian graduated from the Armenian State Institute of Physical Culture in 1992. He became a Grandmaster in chess in 2000. Yegiazarian had won the Armenian Youth Championship in 1984 and 1988 in the under-18 group and came in third place at the senior Armenian Chess Championship in 1998 and 2000. The Yerevan city chess club, which included Yegiazarian, won the 1995 European Chess Club Cup. Yegiazarian won the international tournament in Tbilisi, and won at Batumi in 2001. In 2005, he came in first place in the Aeroflot Open section of the A2 Tournament. He competed at the Chess Olympiads in 1994 and 1996. Elina Danielian
Elina Danielian ( hy, Էլինա Դանիելյան; born 16 August 1978 in Baku) is an Armenian chess grandmaster and six-time Armenian women's champion (1993, 1994. 1999, 2002, 2003, 2004). She has represented Armenia twelve times during the Women's Chess Olympiads (1992–2014). She played in the gold medal-winning Armenian team at the 5th Women's European Team Chess Championship in Plovdiv 2003. In 2021 she won the European Individual Chess Championship. Danielian won the World Under-14 Girls Championship in Duisburg 1992 and the World Under-16 Girls Championship in Bratislava 1993. Levon Grigori Aronian ( hy, Լևոն Գրիգորի Արոնյան, Levon Grigori Aronyan; born 6 October 1982) is an Armenians, Armenian Grandmaster (chess), chess grandmaster, who currently plays for the United States Chess Federation. A chess prodigy, he earned the title of grandmaster in 2000, at age 17. Grandmaster (chess)
Grandmaster (GM) is a title awarded to chess players by the world chess organization FIDE. Apart from World Champion, Grandmaster is the highest title a chess player can attain. Once achieved, the title is held for life, though exceptionally it has been revoked for cheating. The title of Grandmaster, along with the lesser FIDE titles of International Master (IM) and FIDE Master (FM), is open to all players regardless of gender. The great majority of grandmasters are men, but 40 women have been awarded the GM title as of 2022, out of a total of about 2000 grandmasters. Since about the year 2000, most of the top 10 women have held the GM title. There is also a Woman Grandmaster title with lower requirements awarded only to women.
