Armand-Pierre Angrand
Armand Pierre Angrand (9 October 1892 – 29 August 1964) was a Senegalese politician, nobleman and writer and mayor of Gorée and Dakar in 1934. Son of Leopold Angrand (1859–1906), descendant of a prominent Métis Signares Goree. Grand son of Pierre Angrand (1820 -?), a rich merchant and shipowner and Helene de Saint-Jean (1826–1859), granddaughter of Estoupan of St. John, who signed the capitulation of Gorée 1758 against the British. He wrote a basic guide for the Europeans (French, Wolof Manual, foreword by Theodore Monod),. Armand-Pierre Angrand was also a correspondent in the Senegal Universal Negro Improvement Association (UNIA) movement founded by Marcus Garvey. Gorée
(; "Gorée Island"; Wolof: Beer Dun) is one of the 19 (i.e. districts) of the city of Dakar, Senegal. It is an island located at sea from the main harbour of Dakar (), famous as a destination for people interested in the Atlantic slave trade although its actual role in the history of the slave trade is the subject of dispute. Its population as of the 2013 census was 1,680 inhabitants, giving a density of , which is only half the average density of the city of Dakar. Dakar
Dakar ( ; ; wo, Ndakaaru) (from daqaar ''tamarind''), is the capital and largest city of Senegal. The city of Dakar proper has a population of 1,030,594, whereas the population of the Dakar metropolitan area is estimated at 3.94 million in 2021. Marcus Garvey
Marcus Mosiah Garvey Sr. (17 August 188710 June 1940) was a Jamaican political activist, publisher, journalist, entrepreneur, and orator. He was the founder and first President-General of the Universal Negro Improvement Association and African Communities League (UNIA-ACL, commonly known as UNIA), through which he declared himself Provisional President of Africa. Ideologically a black nationalist and Pan-Africanist, his ideas came to be known as Garveyism. Garvey was born into a moderately prosperous Afro-Jamaican family in Saint Ann's Bay and he was apprenticed into the print trade as a teenager.
